I’m in the USA and have collected USA and German stamps since the late 1950’s. I’ve been away from the hobby for quite a few years and am now looking for a way to use Excel to both track my current collections and also conveniently list stamps I’m trying to find. I’d like to avoid having to manually enter large amounts of stamp data into the spreadsheet and would appreciate suggestions on what to do. I’d be willing to pay a reasonable price for Excel sheets displaying key stamp data for both of these countries. I’m a retired engineer with a good working knowledge of Excel and am currently using Excel 2016 (32-bit version).

Hello Ohio,
You might try this link:
It appears to have excel or google docs inventory lists for most countries including US.

Thanks banknoteguy for that link to the spreadsheet. I never knew it was there! It is far too much for my needs, but gave me idea's on how to adjust my own sheets!

I have organized my wish lists as Excel spreadsheets too. One spreadsheet per dealer I buy from regularly. For each, the first few columns are a description of the stamp/lot (ordering number, country, catalog number, word description), then price and number of stamps in the lots. From there I give a ranking for the country (from 1 for most interesting to 6 for least interesting), another ranking for the theme of the stamps (again from 1 for my main collection themes to 6 for stamps of no thematic interest to me), and a price ranking (on a logarithmic scale, otherwise, it's not fair). I then combine these three rankings in a variety of ways to decide what I will buy next.

Welcome to TSF, fml ! I am originally from Ohio myself, Cleveland to be precise. Where in Ohio are you, if you don't mind my asking? We have several members on TSF who are currently in Ohio ( djcmh, fkarl, millersville, daveg28 come to mind, but there may be others) and some who came from Ohio originally, like myself or mikeclevenger. Anyway, enjoy your time with us.... -Chris ( Beryllium Guy)

Any chance you could upload a screen snap shot of one of your most used spreadsheets?

Welcome! I'm sure you will...excel at organizing your collection. Excelsior! Time will tell.
Have begun designing a spreadsheet tailored to my needs.
Working at some how including a thumbnail for each stamp in the spreadsheet.

We've already got a thread on Excel spreadsheets. Let's move this discussion out of the intro thread and into a subject matter one. Either add on to the existing thread or start a new one.

Welcome to the forum and if it works for you, the spreadsheets on Google Docs make it super convenient to be able to look things up on the go and from your phone, or access it from any computer anywhere. Happy collecting!

Does Google Docs offer the ability to create a spreadsheet that allows an image (picture of a stamp) within one of its cells?
I ask because I'm in the process of creating just such an Excel file with Scott Numbers next to images of corresponding pictures of the stamps that I'm interested in.
