I've posted a few of these associated with the Iwo Jima stamp (Scott 929; Jul 11, 1945) in the topical category -- rather than reposting them, they may be viewed here. Here is one addressing Japanese concern over agreements reached at the Potsdam Conference (July 17 - August 2, 1945). The stamp on this cover is the 3 cent Iwo Jima stamp cited above.

An Artcraft patriotic cover addressed to the Washington Stamp Exchange, which was the producer of Artcraft cachets (later as The Washington Press). It has an APO postmark and a rubber-stamped censor mark.

Speaking of Minkus, here are two of the cachets from that packet, each franked with my favorite stamp. Here is another Minkus, perhaps from a different packet of cacheted covers.

Here is another Minkus cachet from de61's post. This one looks like it was a commercial usage. I believe I have seen Cheerio Fireside Service identified as a mail order stamp dealer.

While going through my collection of Minkus FDCs, I realized Minkus had also created a series of patriotic cachets prior to the United States' direct involvement in World War II. These patriotic FDCs focused on defense, freedom, and the American way of life.

I collect patriotic covers sold by Porto Server of Chicago, Illinois during WW II. All of the designs are based on an armed service member attempting to distribute mail to and from soldiers and sailors of the Army, Navy and Army Air Force. To date, I have not seen one representing the Marine Corps or Coast Guard. So far, I have collected 17 different designs, but don't know how many designs were sold. A checklist would be nice, but have not yet found one. Anyone else collect these?
Here's my most recent acquisition. Don StampHinger

My brother sent me these patriotic covers. They come from his wife's side of the family. Looking at the colorful posts from above, I don't know who created these cachets. These cachets are listed in UNITED STATES PATRIOTIC ENVELOPES OF WORLD WAR II by Lawrence Sherman Hitler Claims... cachet 3405 by Ted Harrington of Milwaukee Gone But Not Forgotten... cachet 3975 by Ted Harrington of Milwaukee They're Fightng Fools... cachet 7997 by Poppenger of Akron. Also listed as Ted PoPenger in another section. Perhaps different?

Many thanks for your help JeffS! I wasn't aware of source material that covered these WWII cachets. I'll look into it. Thanks again.

Here is a patriotic cachet by Jacques Minkus (1901-1996). Published in 1942 (1st set ... Nr. JM1.9). It was also catalogued by Lawrence Sherman (Nr. S2 7195). For more information check out: www.folklib.net/fdc/makers/minkus/catalog/#Set1This copy of the cachet / cover was sent from APLO 755 in Berlin on July 9, 1945. It was sent by an officer on occupation duty to his wife in Washington, DC. Enclosed with the cover is a letter dated June 20, 1945 in which he hopes that the cover arrives in nice condition as "it will make a nice cover to keep" - it would appear that the colonel was a stamp collector. Stamp: x3US - National Defense Issue 90mm Anti-Aircraft Gun Issued on October 16, 1940 2c, Rose carmine Sc. 900 Cancel:Machine Cancel - U.S. ARMY POSTAL SERIVCE / JUL 9 / 1945 / 755Note: According to the 'Alphabetical Listing of APOs between 1942 and 1947' prepared for the US Army Military History Institue in 1967 and based on the records of the US Army Postal Service, APO 755 was estalished in Berlin on July 13, 1945. That is four days AFTER the date stamp on this cover. Cachet:STAMP 'EM OUT!Jacques Minkus, 1942 JM1.9
