I have been a collector for over 50 years.
I live in Kent in SE UK. I am a member of many Societies related to my specialities. As well as my local club, I am a fellow of the Royal, President of the China Philatelic Society of London and editor of The Kent Post. So I collect China including the Foreign Post Offices up to 1950. I also collect postage due mail, British postal stationery and Kent postal history. Basically a sucker for a nice cover though so I have smaller collections of many things.
By profession a chemist, I have an interest in the analytical side of philately

Welcome to the forum, Paul! It's a great place. I don't know if you've any interest in first day covers, but here's one from the U.S. with a stamp related to your profession:

paul , For your awareness, we have another member ( eugene ) who is an analytical chemistry professor at Rutgers University specializing in non-destructive spectroscopic analysis of philatelic material. Unfortunately, he hasn't signed in to the Forum since August 21. It seems there may be some overlap in your interests so, at some point, you may want to reach out to him.

Good afternoon Paul, I know that one of your pet subjects is the collection of postage dues, I was browsing a dealers 'for sale' list when I came across this particular stamp SG D62 first issued 6¹¹/61. Have you ever seen this particular printing error before, as it does not seem to appear in the SG specialised. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Paperchase I have asked you this because I decided to have a look at one of my own 5d's and noticed that my stamp had similar characteristics but with several additional printing flaws. > The additional markings found ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The P of POSTAGE has a small extension like an R. The top left of the D of DUE has a curly extension. The left side of P of PENCE also has additional markings. Also with similar markings between S&T Have you checked any of your copies ?

I collect postage dues used on cover, emphasising the rates, deficiency and calculation rather than the stamp itself. Also my main collection specialises in GB going abroad so only gets GB dues if it was originally underpaid or returned to sender. I will take a look at the few dues I have and see if I can spot it. Does SG specialised mention it?

In order to get the full story so far I suggest that you look at the following posting I made recently on the GBPS' discussion board, rather than explain it all again. > www.gbps.org.uk/boards/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1851I think it's a matter of cream and whiter papers being involved ! Get back to me once you've had a peek. Fred (paperchase).
