Though my early 20s, I used a Scott Minuteman album. And I hated how I could not get the binder to stay open for about the first quarter and last quarter of the album. So, I was happy to move to a 3 ring binder that allowed the pages to lat flat.
But looking back on pictures of other 2 post albums, it looks like some of my issues may have been because the binder was packed to tight by Scott Publishing. I've seen pictures of Scott National album that are far more loosely packed and pages seem to be able to lie flat in them in the beginning and and of the album.
Curious what others use and why.
And if you're long-time collector that moved from 2-post to 3-ring and had pages that were bigger than US Letter/A4, how did you punch existing pages to make them fit in a 3 ring binder?

I never liked the posts. They were always faulting long before a 3-ring! Too much stress seemed to be put on the pages as well. Fine if you never open it I suppose!

If Mama Boucher collected stamps she would probably say "Two post binders are the devil". I hate them. With a passion.

I have no preference but as I use mainly three ring, I will stick with then unless I find some real reason to change.

Hi Andy
Three ring. There are more types of 3 ring binders to choose from than post binders.

13 rings for me Lighthouse were very clever, their binders for pre-printed pages have 13 rings, 2 of which are slightly larger so they fit 4 different types of album, turn bar, ring, springback and bolt binder. I started with their PERFECT turn-bar binder (2 rings) in the 1980s but these were less than perfect so moved to their 13 EXCELLENT 13 ring binder which were and still are excellent

Rings over posts - posts have too many restrictions.

Rings here now. Started out with a Traveler Stamp Album 2 post binder many many years ago and definitely prefer a more universal 8.5 x 11 three-hole.

Recently I have been involved in breaking up collections in ring binders 2 or 3, springback albums and 2post peg fitting binders. Spring backs do not open flat but generally work well . The average 2 ring is least satisfactory of all , pages flop about. 2post peg fitting , like spring back, do not lie flat but with the pegs top and bottom seem more secure than ring binders . Most ring binders are vicious things with danger of nipping fingers. For many years I did favour Multiring 22 ring binders , which I liked , opening and closing was gentler than the big rings. I have also found vario or are they Hagner ? sheets of the stock book type with michael ’s 13 rings in the collections which offer a choice of binder fittings. As I have reduced my collecting areas over the past decade I have been involved quite a lot in exhibiting to my own club and neighbouring societies .With stamp shows and occasional exhibits, I have given up on albums altogether. My pages , pre cut to size with no holes , are in transparent protectors and stored in box files!

I go with 3 ring binders, stock books, and glassine envelopes just because they are readily available.

Three ring binders because it is faster and easier to swap out pages, they are available from multiple manufacturers so you have a vast selection and prices are more reasonable because of competition. D style rings are much nicer, too. I’m in the process of switching to larger binders so that I don’t have to go back and forth as often.

I would love to use a binder with more than 3 rings. The idea off a 13 or 22 ring binder is very appealing. I feel the page turns are smoother. But I can't find US Letter size binders with more than 3 rings, and even if I did, I don't know if I could find a 13 or 22 ring hole punch.

I guess we like to live with the danger. But then we have all those knives used in cooking and many others.
