I have come across several stamps and covers with TPO..travelling post office..cancellations.These would show the route or train number. Route numbers 1-200 were usually assigned to first class TPO,s and 200-700 were for second class TPO,s. Numbers over 1000 are train numbers and indicate the use of a mail guard. ( info taken from TPO and Seapost Society)

Two different types of TPO cancellations on cover. The first cover has a Triest to Vienna postmark. The train number is at the bottom of the cancellation but is not very clear...possibly 10, The cover was sent in January,1912 to Holland. The second cover was sent to Berlin in April 1892 and has train number 292 from Riva to Mora, both of which are now in Northern Italy.

An alternative term for TPO was POSTAMBULANCE. This is a 5kr stationery letter card with K.K.Post Ambulance No 9 cancellation. This was the Trieste to Vienna route.

Mail guard postmarks...POSTCONDUCTEUR im ZUGE. These are a little harder to find and appear to show the route and the train number.
