Hi Everyone I have recently discovered my Grandfathers stamp collection and don't have any idea about stamps! So I thought this was the best place to pick the experts brains! My Name is Jack and my Grandfather was John Lampon, he was the Mayor of Colchester 1987/88 he also served in India during the second world war and has many stamps from India and all over the world. Hopefully you can help me learn about their age and rarity. Thanks Jack

Good afternoon Jack and welcome to the Stamp Forum. It seems that you have hit the ground running, don't cut the beanstalk down yet as there may be a goose that lays golden eggs. In order to assess your grandfather's stamp collection Jack, you will need to take a few pictures of the stamps in question in order for members to see them, otherwise your time will be wasted on this site. It may be better if you take them to a local stamp dealer in your area for appraisal. Good luck with your snaps......... Paperchase.

That's the idea Jack ! Or you may want to set up a thread first with a name something like "my grandads stamp collection", it's completely up to you ........ Paperchase

Hi DK, thanks for the link. In my ignorance would it be better to leave the stamps on the album when scanning or remove them and do it individually? I'm a bit worried about damaging them even if they aren't worth a fortune they are still very old and interesting. Thanks again

Initially leave them on their pages. Just take pictures (not blurry ones) and post them in your thread. Not too many pics per post though, maybe 3 or 4 per post. If any member sees anything interesting then they will request a better image perhaps.
We are looking forward to seeing what your grandfather has :-)
