Hello there! Going through some old stamps and got curious about a marking on a Switzerland(?) motive. At the bottom it says *something*spensuble, what does this marking say and mean? Thank you in advance.

Hi places, that's a machine cancel on a Swiss stamp. It appears to be promoting the Federal Office for Civil Protection which 'protects the population and its vital resources in the event of disasters, emergencies and armed conflict'. The wording is in French, one of the official languages in Switzerland. So, the word at the bottom is probably 'Indispensable'. The inclusion of aircraft in the cancel may suggest that it was specifically promoting air defence.

Thank you so much Daniel (and Renden), only seen regular postal office stamps so guess this means it once upon a time departed from the Federal Office for Civil Protection? Perhaps people with interest in warhistory will like it then.

Hi places , Like many countries Switzerland has machine cancels which have a circular datestamp plus an illustrated slogan > but like this one they are better collected whole on piece. You have the illustration , the date stamp would have been alongside I don't Know what they call them in Switzerland, but the French call them " Flammes" > Yours was probably simply used on regular mail through a post office, not via any special Federal department. In English we probably call them " Slogan cancels "

Sometimes not available complete, or takes up too much space , or cover is messy ! at least the piece shows the whole cancel which explains it better than a soaked off stamp

Wow, thank you all again for sharing so much knowledge. Maybe the envelope wasnt much to save, still only seen one place label on our post so can understand if a new collector from here would overlook slogan cancelations for their collection
