One of the reasons for the production of a whiter paper in 1962 was to increase/enhance the automatic letter facing machines' capabilities.
A more modern equivalent has been developed since the original graphite lined stamps was used in the late 1950s, and can now be seen on the following film in relation to processing letters sent from A to B >
