In many respects collectors hunger for information that relates to different aspects of their hobby or interest and its just the same with stamp collecting, the quest for knowledge is insatiable, especially when there is so much to learn, consequently one of the benefits of joining a club that deals specifically with your particular hobby gives you the chance meet other individuals with likewise interests, sometimes with more experience and advanced knowledge of your particular subject.
This is why various clubs and societies have been formed in order to share information and generally socialise.
Anyone interested in stamp collecting should try and join a local club if there is one in the your area and participate in its activities in giving and receiving useful information.
The Great Britain Philatelic Society (GBPS) was formed on this basis in order to help and assist others with a mutual understanding towards their hobby of stamp collecting.
The fact that people can now communicate their knowledge and information via the internet all around the world now gives people a better chance for understanding and learning from each other, this was not the case 40 to 50 years ago.
