Adding to my Memel holdings already shown earlier in this thread, this doubly overprinted issue, where the original "50 Pfennig" became "50 Mark" (YT #81 from 1922): (Note to Admin: Maybe best to keep the Memel overprints in a separate thread, or even as a stand-alone country).

Lithuania has a very complex postal history, reflecting that the country have shifted between being in "possession" of other countries, being independent plus all the local and occupational issues etc. This interesting story can be traced by the postmarks as well - thus Lithuania deserves a tread for postmarks and forerunners Here is a few examples on forerunners for the Klaipeda (ex. Memel) area, which was annexed by Lithuania some years after WW1: (I´m sorry for the very poor quality of the image, the photo was taken for another reason than post here..) Any interest for such stuff guys? renden blaamand Beryllium Guy Quoting to include image of Memel postmarks to be moved to a new thread in the newly created Memel country board.

Lithuanian Occupation Sc N1/SG #1 issued 1923. In 1923 the area became part of Lithuania, was renamed Klaipéda. Provisional overprints were issued.

Al ( angore ), I have moved your above post of a Memel stamp into this existing thread in the Memel sub-board, where it joins other posts of similar material. I also wanted to give this thread a bump so that those looking at Recent Threads would see it.

Collecting Memel is treacherous waters. Lots of forgeries out there :-( Before starting out, I recommend getting this series of e-books: "Memel-Klaipeda Philatelic Handbook Part 1-3" A few sample pages about forged postmarks: At almost 600 pages, it's a bargain at 25$. Get is here: mkpdirect.com/ebooks/

The handbook I mentioned above also lists all varieties, and it seems it's your lucky day :-) Yours is pos. 46 (B 124 n2 = “0” in 10 has a circular shape)

Memel-Klaipeda Philatelic Handbook Part 1-3 , it looks like Vol 2 covers the French overprints. If this is all i plan on collecting is therre a real need for Vol 1 and 3?
Is the listing on Stampworld accurate?

Hi Stanley,
Stampworld bases their system on the Michel catalogues.

I'm taking a small diversion today.... I have the MK-Handbook, which is quite detailed, however, I not that following the color variant , in parenthisis are three (3) numbers ) see below I cannot find any explanation, and plugging into a RGB color generator makes me think it's not the RGB code. It does appear to be tied to color as each color variant has a slightly different sequence of numbers. anyone know what this 'code' means?

I contacted the publisher (the author has passed away ) The values are supposed to be R -G -B values obtained from Michel, however, the publisher admitted there were a number of typos found, but have not been corrected following the authors passing. I am surprised most of the values I have seen so far are such low values . RGB - each color has a range of 0.-255 for now, I won't put too much time into this....
