Reminds me of the early eBay days , pre PayPal , when it was still possible to mail a banknote to pay for a purchase .

The only US payment that never arrived here was one where the sender wrapped $10 in Aluminium foil “ for security” . I think it must have fried the auto sorting mechanism!

what ever it is , it's better than a poke in the eye from a wet umbrella!
