I tossed this “stamp” in with a small auction lot of etiquettes and CVPs, but now I wonder - does anyone collect these? Would they be considered a revenue / fiscal?

I do not collect Austrailia so I can't comment on the stamp, but I know many folks (including myself) collect other countries tax stamps.
Yours has a nice full "postmark" (?)

I learned from Dave Sheridan, a collector from Australia, that these are collectible - value for something like this is about $15. Interestingly, he said that the ticket it is attached to is for an airline (Ansett?) that is now defunct.

And so occurs, one of the most irritating scenarios in Stamp Collecting
Just a week or so ago, I was looking at a colour catalogue of some sort, and at the back, it had ALL the Australian departure taxes listed.
I thought at the time, that was unusual, never seen a listing before, but decided not to take further notice, because it hardly ever comes up in Philately.
Now seeing this thread, dashed if I can find where I saw that, I have probably looked at 20 catalogues this week. Now it seems lost for me, forever.
