Is there a country whose postage stamps are copyrighted regardless of the year of issue? I refer especially to those with more than 100 years since the first stamp issue.

Even with underlying copyrights for stamp designers, persons depicted, logos depicted, etc...I hope no country actually has copyright on their stamps that are older than...120 years?

I think it's fair to say that stamps issued before 1840 will not be copyrighted

You must really be interested in reusing stamp images. Do you have some big plans?

What an interesting question, dorincard . That thought has never even entered my mind... is that actually a thing? Because yeah, there are circumstances where I've wanted to use stamp images, say, while teaching something... I know that Marios over at EZStamp puts a protective overprint on his stamp images in the software to protect all his hard work. I don't blame him at all for doing that (646,450 images is a LOT of work to have put in over the years, yes? #MasterOfUnderstatement) So yeah, say I want to use a UN Year of the Child stamp in the PPTs of my Abuse Prevention class at church, conceivably, could the UN come after me for copyright infringement? Now I'm curious and look forward to hearing from everyone else!

seegod1, if your church class is not for commercial use (profit), then your use of stamp image should be "fair use". No problem.
But if you sell T-shirts with certain stamp images...then it depends on the specifics.

seegod1, you could be sued for copyright infringement by some countries if you sell 1 philatelic T-shirt. But it's OK for catalog companies to use for commercial PROFIT all the images "from 750 countries", dead or alive. Did they pay licensing fees to ALL those countries? "New Orders: Starting at $54.99 US or $244.99 for the Entire World Edition (contents of all 750 databases we offer). All prices are in US $ For all physical shipments: S/H to Canada & USA is Included ( $10 additional for other destinations ). If you order EzStamp as a Download (ie. we email the software to you): No s/h fee or media costs." ezstamp.com/

You must really be interested in reusing stamp images. Do you have some big plans? angore: yes, I'm very interested. Actually, I do have big plans. 😉 For decades, I was only interested in promoting philately, including by (free) philatelic objects. Then I wondered what if some stamp images are actually in the public domain, under no copyright of any kind. If it's perfectly legal to use SOME stamp images for designing and selling "gifts at Zazzle and such", or for minting and selling NFTs, then...what would YOU do? Until I hear your "train of thought" about this, here's a philately-promoting postcard that I designed at Zazzle. Sold a few, around the online world. Marketing, or lack thereof... I will never get rich from commercial philately, but hey!... www.zazzle.com/trains_railways_locomotives_4_postcard-239766305533509265
