Nice article. Did they approach you for the article?

Hey great article @ darkormex . Like you, my collection started out with a Traveler Stamp Album. I LOVE the Soliloquy of a Postage Stamp on the back of it. I'm sorry to say that I got rid of it in favour of a larger one when I got back into collecting, and regretted it... that is until one day a local hobby shop was closing and they had a brand new one on sale for a song, and I thought... "Hm! Let's go back to the future, as it were!' So now I use it for used stamps, as opposed to mint ones in my other albums. I have since decided to keep any "boyhood albums" people give me to add to my collection, maintaining their collection in it, such as a Strand Postage Stamp album and Whitman Postage Stamp album, both from the 50s or so.

Joining with others to congratulate you on a great "stamp story," Darrin! Your approach to collecting seems much like mine as a worldwide collector, and it's always validating for me to see someone else collecting in a similar way. Just started looking at your Facebook, as well. (I'll be back when I have a little more time).

Nice article. Did they approach you for the article? I am one that dislikes self-adhesives primarily because of the inconvenience. Yes, they did. I think it has more to do with my swap & research with Ted from Ted Talk Stamps than anything else. Please note that my comments are not directed at any one person here or anywhere else. It is just a general consensus that I have heard from multiple stamp collectors through the years. Many of the collectors I meet at our local stamp show feel similarly.

Great article. i am a « all over the world » collect with a few country collections. Not much of a fan of the self adhesive stamps because of the inconvenience. I do add them to collection when they show up. A stamp is a stamp.

You’re a rock star! LoL Seriously - VERY interesting interview. I think it was nice the way you defended modern material and other areas. We philatelists tend to keep our noses at too high of an altitude sometimes. And what is no biggie to us will be postal history in the future. If we’re not saving covers from countries that become or dissolve, or other changes then we’re dropping the ball.
Also - wow WORLDWIDE. I am in awe. Twenty countries and I still keep pruning. Amazing fortitude.

Darrin ( darkormex), great interview…. thanks for letting us know about it! I really admire how you stand up for what you believe and for your choices, but you also acknowledge that every collector chooses for himself or herself. I think it’s an exemplary statement. Also, I have really enjoyed your Facebook blog, and I will look out for the YouTube videos. Great stuff!

darkormex thanks for sharing.
Your attitude changed my thinking. Sure; I've got a bunch of assumptions about what it's all about for me. Much of what I jump for is classic. Not as an investment--like you I'm dubious about that--more because I like the history of it. But my tastes are more ecumenical than I let on. A nifty cancel on post-classic stamp always gets my antennas buzzing.
No doubt that's what draws me to TSF; to see how others do it. More than once, the first sight of a personal twist has me shaking my head--are they serious collecting that?--but it doesn't take long to acknowledge they absolutely are serious, and they're on to something.

I very much liked the article Darrin. And some of your thoughts got me thinking. I'm one of those who prefer 'classic' philately, but lately .......
I have found interest in the Belgium definitive stamps from the 60 and onwards. There is so much paper types, gum, phosphor and more to look for on relatively easy to get stamps. It might end up with expanding my collections time span but with only definitive stamps (and maybe BB stamps to) in several countries. I have to give it a real thought.
