Yes I have heard about that. I'll tell you what I remember hitting the news here in America in a giant way- it was that drought youins had and the mouse explosion! I was in absolute awe! Non-Native species and Non-native nuisance species can destroy an ecosystem as you full well know!

Interesting, I thought the prickly pear was brought to Australia with Italian immigrants. I have a prickly pear about 200 metres from wher I live. The fruit is delicious, but a bit tricky to peel. Now, if we could only get rid of that other introduced pest, the Cane Toad it's wiping out all our native Fauna, and Governments seem to do nothing. By chance, I came across this Wikipedia article on introduced species in Australia a while ago. I knew about the problems with rabbits and a few other things, but one notable species that I didn't know anything about were the 1 million+ camels in Australia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasive_species_in_AustraliaRyan

That's a fairly depressing list you show there Ryan I certainly wasn't aware of the numbers. BTW : Canadian (BC) Mike Pike of the Sydney Swans footy, was in a losing side in a prelim final last night, West Australian Fremantle Dockers are in the Grand Final.

Yes, the Swans are the team I hope for - easy to choose when there's only one Canadian in the AFL. It does sound like he's a good one, regardless of nationality. Ryan

ha ha - Yes, Australian Rules Football. Canada has a bit of a weird relationship with the AFL. Years ago when our first 24-hr sports station showed up on cable TV, they didn't have much of a budget and they couldn't afford to import any fancy programming and they couldn't afford to produce more of their own programs. One of the cheap things they found was Australian Rules Football. So this stuff was on TV up here all the time for the early subscribers to the channel. As the channel became more popular they had more money to get "better" programming, but there was now a healthy fan base for the AFL and an uproar ensued when the channel tried to get rid of it altogether. So, we've always had at least the championship game broadcast up here, and now that this channel has a subsidiary channel on cable, we are getting weekly games again. Australian Rules Football is often described as rugby without any rules. Giant brutes with tattoos all over clobbering each other without any padding. And a very odd fashion sense when it comes to repairing injured men. They have a rule against flowing blood, and this site is a common occurrence - this is apparently the best way they've found to fix the problem, you see it quite often. ha ha And because this has wandered well away from anything stamp-related, here are some Australian Rules Football stamps. I'm quite pleased, just a couple of days ago I won a large lot of Australian stamps that had many of the AFL stamps in both self-adhesive and water activated gum varieties. Those WAG stamps are especially tough to find, in normal kiloware they're virtually never seen. Not by me, at least ... Ryan

Hi
I just remembered that a friend used a Pantone color chart to match stamp colors. Besides being an expensive item it was not all that helpful as the names did not match the catalogs.
Rodney:
You have frogs and in Georgia we have Kudzu, which I have heard called "The vine that ate the South". It takes over everything. A news story a few years ago talked about a crafts-person who made baskets from the vine. The person set a basket on the ground and in a few weeks the basket rooted and started growing.

Bufotin toxin I believe and is super poisonous to pets dogs in particular. Maybe there should be an "ode to the toad", like a warning/I.D. stamp. Might help spread the awareness? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cane_toads_in_Australiaaustralianmuseum.net.au/Cane-Toad
