There are a bazillion stamp auction lots for sale on EBay with ZERO bids, but doesn’t it seem like everything WE bid on gets 50 bids? What’s up with that? LoL! Waaaaaaahhhh!

Yeah
And even when we bid high and come close, it is never enough for the determined bidder with more passion or deeper pockets.

I do not snipe but do bid fairly late so as not to encourage interest. I suspect some follow others bidding.

Yeah And even when we bid high and come close, it is never enough for the determined bidder with more passion or deeper pockets. And don’t forget those with pa$$ionate pockets. Like in postal history. I see something in an area of interest. Never seen the item before. Likely never will. It’s an auction opening at $5 or so. I bookmark it with a $6 bid. Then go to my sniping service and have a lengthy conversation with my higher power. Enter my snipe bid. This is crazy I tell myself. Two days later likely bump my snipe my 20%. I can truthfully say I have endured more grief losing an item than paying “too much” (whatever the heck that means) for one.

no kidding! and lately there are a lot of sellers smiling BIG. I was following one of the early perforated France air mails, CV listed at $455 (which seemed odd...) Opening bid for the first two days a couple of bucks- but with 3 days to go, the bid now stands at $254 and change!
There's no cert on the stamp[, and the perfin isn't parallel which makes me suspect of it's authenticity, (and unperforated stamps are pretty common) but with the bid at that amount I can definitely look away

Sure wish I could get those kinds of bids on MY lots. But, mostly the dudes with all the bids are very well established BIG eBay sellers that have large numbers of followers. They can afford to have penny starting bids whereas little fish like me gets burned using the low start strategy. I tried that my first week selling this year and practically gave away some nice stuff. Now my start prices are the minimum I would sell for without crying into my pillow later.
