Another Vatican cover caught my eye so before you know it I clicked ”buy me now!”. My question is this - see the pencil markings? They look old so I plan to leave them as is, but I wonder how other collectors would treat this cover? Keep or erase? Those markings attest to the old times in philately - philatelists rarely scribble on cover fronts nowadays. At most you might see markings on the backs. Another question. If the flight was from Brussels to Rome, why is it addressed to a Belgian address? And the travel time seems very slow for airmail/ registered. Sent 7/12/39 arrived 7/19/39? I don’t have the cover in hand yet, so there may be additional markings on the back. Curious cover.

philatelia I would leave the writing on the cover.I have numerous covers with extra markings and I do not erase them. Some are written there to help the delivery person. Most of the letters which were sent to me here in Ecuador had some sort of extra marking, such as the number of the mail route. Anglobob PS Not sure why the travel time was so long....maybe they had to stop and ask for directions ??

If you ask me, and I am hardly experienced in these sort of things...
I'd say it's a philatelic cover, sent from Brussels for a holiday at the Vatican City post office, where to was then re-stamped and sent back to the addressee. It would be interesting to see what's on the backside.

Looks like it was posted to Rome from an airshow in Belgium and then posted back to Belgium from the Vatican some days after. There may be an original address under the etiquette labels.
A nice cover.

I would not delete anything I would leave as it is. It carries the circular cancellation of the show of the 25th annual Belgian Air Force of 1939. It would be helpful to see the other side as well.
