Hi! I am a new member from Toronto, Canada, who is returning to collecting after a long absence. I collect (only) mint or unused Ceres stamps (from Portugal and Colonies). The wide variety of colours in these various stamps, which all have the same design, has always been of great appeal to me. Even though I am familiar with numerous online articles on the topic, I find it difficult to distinguish the Ceres paper varieties, such as chalky paper vs ordinary paper etc., (whether using magnification equipment or UV lighting equipment). My ultimate object, of course, is to try and collect a complete set of all the varieties, (using the current Scott catalogue system for classification purposes). I am looking forward to being able to obtain advice from forum members on some of my outstanding queries. That's all for now. Richard Ulster

to TSF! You've come to the right place. We have several enthusiasts of the Ceres Portuguese issues here (including myself, at an amateur level, when they concern the African Colonies issues). Please join in the discussions or revive some of the associated threads.

Welcome to the forum from the UK Richard rulster! Ceres are beautiful stamps - I don't collect them specifically but I'm always happy when they come my way - look forward to seeing some of yours.

Hi Richard,
Yeah, I agree. For certain countries, that plain and chalky paper difference can be really hard to recognize. I am hoping you can teach me something about it. I must admit, I have always been drawn to the early Portuguese colonial issues from Mozambique, Inhambane, Quelimane, etc.
