EQUESTRIAN SEAL OF KING DINIZ
While I don't yet consider myself a collector of this issue, I seem to have accumulated a few covers with the stamps. Issued in a set of 16 values from 1953 - 1956, they don't seem to have the challenges of the Ceres issues. I am curious if these are actively collected by Portugal enthusiasts or if they are simply too boring to bother with. I would like to know how complicated the postal rates in effect during this issue. Also the date at which time these were withdrawn from sale or replaced, and with what issue.
Being issued well-past the end of WWII I don't expect them to have the excitement of wartime mails. How extensive a use can be found from Portugal territories. Do multiples with interesting marginal markings exist? Printing defects? The ususal things which light our fires.
Is it a fool's errand to pursue this issue any further?
Perhaps stanley64 , or other Portugal collectors, can set me straight
Thanks if you can. Heck, thanks if you read this far!
Jeff
I just now noticed the Medieval Knight thread, perhaps this would be best located there?

I had no idea the genesis was a King's seal. Nice onePortugal offers one, to go even 1 step further Collect the "backs of stamps" (1972 buildings)Source : shown on image

Your thoughts on including this in the Medieval Knights thread would not have been off-the-mark JeffS , as any catalogue or article I have seen refers to this series as " Cavaleiro Medieval".
This definitive series was printed from1953-55 and would not have a replacement until the '70s with the release of the “Landscapes and Monuments” series in 1972. There is not a lot of information available but a recent series on the precedent Caravel issues in the Clube Filatélico de Portugal journal examining paper types, postal usage, clichés, etc. would suggest something similar could be done with the Medieval Knights series as well.
In Clube Filatélico de Portugal Society's journal of December 2007 there is reference to a collection / exhibit, "" Estudo dos inteiros posta is Cavaleiro Medieval" - and you can read more about it here. In the article, it is mentioned that this issue is perhaps overlooked and as such, undervalued. For someone wanting to build an specialised collection without breaking the bank, there is exists an opportunity. I do see the sets available and they do seem to have thier following :-)
In my quick search, I could not find any rate tables to share, but the standard stuff exists, airmail, registered, international as would be expected. In addition to rates, paper types, I do see auction listing for misperfs, printing folds and perfins of which there are plenty.
Given the splendid covers you already have, it could be a fun collection to build on...
Have fun and happy collecting!

Hiya Vince stanley64, thank you for the info on the Medieval Knights stamp. The link at first didn't work on my iPad but now on my desktop, it started opening. I went ahead and purchased a nice NH set of the stamps to have a starting base for the issue. How far I chase covers remains to be seen. Best wishes, Jeff

The article is not so much an article, but a paragraph or two which includes an image of the exhibit JeffS . A search of the .pdf file with the term 'medieval' should take you right to it. In the meantime, congratulations on your recent acquisition; they are a nice set and with the covers already in hand, you have a wonderful collection! If choose to add additional covers and continue to build out the pages, do not overlook those items with the maritime cancels or cachets... Have fun and happy collecting!

A recent add to my fledgling Portugal Medieval Knight cover lot, this an AR (Acknowledgment of Receipt) card which accompanied a registered letter mailed within Lisbon in 1955. This served as a proof of delivery and the affixed postage of 1.60 escudos paid for the service in addition to the postage and registration fee for the related letter.
