I haven't collected Canada for 25 years or so. So why did I buy this card? Lets take a look at it.
A P2 with a 3-cent SQ added which partially obscures a large "3" due marking as well as RETURNED FOR INSUFFICIENT POSTAGE. The stamp is postmarked DEAD LETTER OFFICE CANADA dated MR 22 1879. In addition, the card shows a partial number "8" plate number in the UR corner.
So, why did I buy the card?
In the LL corner we find a handwritten note which begins "Bitter oranges on the way..." This note is in violation of the instructions THE ADDRESS ONLY TO BE WRITTEN ON THIS CARD. As such it was sent to the DLO and reposted as a first class letter.
The past couple of years I have been working on a display-class style collection of Oranges Philately, and the "bitter oranges" note makes this an exciting addition.
Bitter (Seville) oranges are the main ingredient (along with sugar) in making orange marmalade.
Life is good.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Wow....your simple little postal stationery has so much going on. I fondly remember being on a walking tour of Seville 7 years ago and seeing all the orange trees. One was tempted to pick the oranges until our guide told us they were bitter and really only good for marmalade. Good find JeffS

I would class this as a”busy” card. So much going on.
A cool fit to a citrus theme.
I would have grabbed this if I had the chance. For me it would be for the added stamp and reason why more postage was required.
