Hello Everyone,
I would first like to thank the administrator for accepting my application to join The Stamp Forum. I look forward to learning here, and perhaps even passing on some of my knowledge to other members.
My name is Brad, and I live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, which is a suburb of Toronto. I have lived in the area my whole life, except for when I was away at university, and a 6 year working stint in Montreal.
I started collecting when I was about 9. I did it, because my father did it, and my grandmother in Chester, UK, started sending British First Day Covers and Presentation Packs to me, starting the year I was born.
There were years when I was an active collector, but as a young person, twice I had to sell of my collection. While at university, I had a part-time job in a stamp shop in Kingston, Ontario - and learned a lot about the hobby, and the business side of stamps.
I guess I have been really into it since I was about 35 years old. I am now 57 and hardly a day goes by that I do not spend at least an hour with my collection.
So, what do I collect?
Predominately Canada. I have everything in MNH Plate Blocks from the Scroll Issue (1928) to 2017. The year 2017 being my cut off date as it was the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation - so I figured it was as good a place as any to stop buying new issues. Now, actually getting all of this into albums has proven to be really time consuming, especially as I custom make each page.
Within Canada, I have some area I am concentrating more on. I have been working away on the Admirals (1911-1928), trying to get all of the various shades, but hope to go into it much deeper.
I am also a fan of the Centennial Definitives (1967-1972) as there never seems to be a limit to the ultraviolet paper and ink shades you can find in the series.
Other favourite areas that I do concentrate on are, Kenya and the various KUT variations; Ireland; Great Britain; and Egypt.
I belong to the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), British North American Philatelic Society (BNAPS), and the Eire Philatelic Association (EPA).
I used to sell duplicates and modern material on Ebay, then went to Delcampe, later back to Ebay, and now just list on Stampworld, which is more hobby than business oriented.
When not working on my stamps, I can be found being a father to my 13 and 16 year old daughters, helping my wife out in the kitchen or the garden, or working my full time job in the Freight Forwarding industry.
I hope to be a contributing member to The Stamp Forum.
Very best regards,
Brad
