Anpex '82 Not your normal "Stamp Exhibition" but a great excuse to knit together a weak pun....... "The Wooly Jumper" the One Penny Roo As a kid all I can remember was the clicking of knitting needeles, My Mom was a knitter a couple of sweaters a month on a slow month, come winter with the dark evenings look out jumpers, scarfs, socks and thank good she never learnt to knit underwear My Grandmother and a Aunt lived with us, I tell you as a kid trying to mount stamps in my album was a hard chore, every 10 minutes I be summoned to the living room and told to stick out my arm to see if the jumper was the right size. My Gran has devised a measuring stick made from a old broom handle on it she had marked different peoples arm lengths on it. I would here "Jacky" and have to drop everything and run in hold the stick under my arm and she would check to see if she had the right length. If she was alive today we all be wearing stamp sweaters and I be in the living room looking like a scarecrow with a boom handle under my arm. She did teach me to knit, maybe something I should look into starting again.

Me too. My Mother was a huge knitter, post war Britain, one saved money, the best you could. I think it was a place she could go in contemplative mood, she would be knitting, but in a far off place somewhere.
It would be knitting, or on the sewing machine, glovemaking.

We seem to be a bit lacking in Stamp Exhibitions Australia-style ! Here's one to commemorate not only the Queensland PS Exhibition of 1938, but also to remember all those poor Koalas who suffered in the recent fires.

This is from the first Australian Philatelic Congress & Exhibition which took place in Sydney, 1911. There are other colours to make up a set, but my copies are not good and so am too embarrassed to show them !! Just the one.......until such a time as I can find more.
