What I collect: The World...just printing and mounting as I go...call me crazy!

Romania has a total of 7 different parcel post stamps listed in the 2016 Scott Catalogue, 2 of which I show here. On the left is either Sc. no. Q1 or Q2. I have checked the watermark and I know it is the Coat of Arms type noted as Wmk. 163 in the Sc. Catalogue. On the right is either Sc. no. Q3 or Q4, which is Wmk. 200, the letters PR, which I again checked. My question is for both stamps, is whether they are brown red which would make the left stamp Q1 and the right stamps Q3 or are they vermillion which would make the left stamp Q2 and the right stamp Q4? I would love to hear your opinions.

Romania Q7 has no varieties listed in the Sc. Catalogue, on Colnect or on the website romaniastamps.com. I have 3 of them here and noted that the left-most stamp's overprint looked just slightly different from the middle and right-most stamp. Indeed it is and most evident in the top bar of the number 5 which, when measured, the bar is 2mm whereas on the 2 other stamps it measures 2 3/4 - 3mm. Not a huge difference and probably just normal variation for this overprint but I wonder how many overprint oddities are out there with this stamp. This seems to be a common stamp.

I also noticed that the Colnect listing seems to be the short bar variety, so maybe this is a consistent variety of this overprint. Here is a screenshot of the Colnect page.

I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks for your post, Darrin. As no one else is responding, I will take a shot at it. Based solely on your scans, these appear to be shades of brown red to me. They do not look vermilion, at least to my eye. I don't have my own Romania holdings with me here in Oxford, so I cannot check to see what I might have for comparison. Other opinions are welcome, of course!

Thank you for your response Chris. Colnect shows only the 3 major varieties and notes them uniformly as brick red so that does not help. When you look at the stamps side by side, to me, the stamp on the left in this screenshot is vermillion rather than brown or brick red and is noted as Q2. What are your thoughts when comparing them to the stamps I have scanned?

Thanks for your further post, Darrin ( darkormex ). Well, I could easily be persuaded by your argument that the left-side copy is vermilion, because that's how it looked to me first thing this morning, when I displayed your image on my iPhone. Then when I displayed the image on my laptop, I thought I could see more brown in it, and I changed my mind. There's some truth to the old saying about first impressions, isn't there? Comparing the Colnect images to yours, I would say that the left-side Colnect one is much brighter in color than the ones on the right, but that could be more to do with scanner settings than differences in the actual stamps. It also looks brighter than either of yours, but again, that could easily come down to the scan rather than the stamps. Not sure if I helped much there!

For me, your left stamp looks vermilion ( I sense hints of orange in the red) while the right reads to me as brown red. Will try to check my Zimbrul Carpatin catalogue later to see what it expands on for these items.

djcmh, I would definitely like to hear what the Romanian catalogue says. Also, I have been meaning to message you. You posted a while back about purchasing that catalogue and I have wanted it for a long time. Can you give me some direction as to how to buy a copy? They never turn up on eBay and there has only ever been one website that I could find that sold it but they don't seem to do e-commerce with the US.
