unusual - wonder if W. Pollock Esq. had been published? Am assuming the word is 'writer' - with my luck Writer is a place in Ayr;-)

paul1 an 18th -19th century “writer” in Scotland would not be an author . It is a title given to a Scots lawyer or advocate “Writer to the Signet” Solicitors swore an oath to the “Signet” or great Seal of Scotland, to uphold the law. the firm of William Pollock and W J Pollock. Appear to have been on the Ayr Harbour board, the Lifeboat, the Corn exchange , etc as Secretary,Treasurer, Clerk legal representative.
