This stamp has me wondering. I don’t have other copies to compare, so I’m hoping a few of our Scandinavian experts can advise. My first question is in regards to the perforation outlines on the right side. I can’t find any other stamps in my collection from this series that has similar perforation outlines. Any ideas? Also, Scott mentions that “Denomination on No. 35 is spelled “MARKKA”. Denomination on No’s. 36-37 is spelled “MARKKAA”. I don’t see any similar mention in Michel, AFA or Facit. The double ring cancel seems similar to others from this era. The perforations are the same gauge but my others are crisp and clean cut, these perfs are rough. I acquired it in a large, very extensive collection that had numerous well annotated varieties so that leads me to believe that the collection was assembled by a knowledgeable philatelist. So is this genuine? Fake? Thanks for taking a look!

I don't like "perforation drawing" on the right. To me, it's a forgery.

I would say that it is a later reprint from some kind of souvenir. What forger would add the fake perf's like that? Just too bad it is damaged...

What a weirdy. Right, the 1 mark looks excellent. As for that 10 mark... I double checked 1885 coat of arms issue--with four numerals--in Facit Classic 2020. That's the printing that switched the 1 mark from a single shade (violet or lilac) to two color (grey and red) and introduced the high value 10 mark, brown and red.
The printed perfs are a big tip. That definitely was not original. As you note, the cut perfs are crude and the paper is wrong; too fibery.
I vote with Pete. This looks like a book or magazine illustration (thus the printed perfs) that got clipped and perforated by some rascal. It's a costly little bugger--so not a shock--but Facit doesn't specifically warn about forgeries.
Definitely keep it. No doubt the previous owner liked it.

Yup! I agree! You’re all saying exactly what popped into my mind looking at it! The printed perfs are really weird, , the jagged perforation cutting is suspicious and the paper doesn’t feel right. It looks cheesy next to the 1 M. The cancel conveniently placed to avoid a date, etc. It just feels all wrong. I’m going to label it as a fake in my collection.
Thanks for corroborating my suspicions!

classicalstamps EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing that. Scott was right about the spelling - it does say ‘MARKKAA” Seeing a genuine copy makes it glaringly obvious, wow. I’m glad I posted my query - And I’m REALLY glad that I didn’t buy that collection to get that stamp! I bought it for what I call the “hockey player issues” (the coat of arms). I gave them that name because so many of them often are missing teeth! Haha

I guess the "creator" did not have time to look into how MARKKA is used on the 1 value, and MARKKAA is used on the 5 and 10 values.
