First three posts moved from the Blocks and Multiples thread. thestampforum.boards.net/thread/9702/blocks-strips-multiples?page=3&scrollTo=152916Posted elsewhere but it fits in here too ! Sc#1894 Flag over Supreme Court, Pl#3 Apparently, the Court was a little shy !! Just a sad and annoying twist to this block which I posted a couple of weeks ago. It now rests in someone else's hand, stolen from my sales table at the Tel Aviv Stamp Bourse this afternoon. I have always held trust in Stamp collectors and most visitors to the bourse are regulars to the event and I had seen them all before. The organizers (Israel Philatelic Federation) are very upset and angry that one of their regulars is most likely also a thief. They are investigating. The block was in a small dealer book with each page holding one item. The whole book was taken which contained only items from USA & Canada. It took the shine off an otherwise excellent day of haggling, selling and chatting about stamps which I rarely get the chance to do. It's not the loss of revenue so much as the thought there was a thief among us. That was the general feeling too when news went round. A sad day for Philately. Londonbus1

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

In all my years either when I owned a retail paint business and then about 15 years buying and selling collectables and antiques at various shows and markets nothing bothered me more than to have something stolen. It as like a personal invasion. If someone accidentally broke something I easily accepted it as a cost of doing business. Even when they offered to pay for what they broke I rarely took it. It is hard but keep your faith knowing that the vast majority of people are good.

That’s TERRIBLE! Makes me angry! I hope they catch the thief.
I’m programming a search on EBay USA for that plate block. Are there any other unusual items that we all can watch for in the markets?

hdm1950......It was like a personal invasion, yes. Annoyingly I carried on that feeling during the night and didn't sleep a wink. But the bad feelings will ease. philatelia......Thanks for eBay search. I have included here some of the other items stolen that may stand out in a crowd. The block shown earlier will stand out easy enough. And yes, it makes me angry too ! There were one or two others that I am still searching for images. Also a number of Imperf Pairs which would be hard to spot. Lots of Pl.No coil Strips, a couple with more scarce numbers. Also some regular low value stamps from USA and Canada, including a couple of hard-to-find booklet stamps fine used. Londonbus1

I would be devastated if this happened to me. Every time I have been on on the past week and see this thread, I grieve (and get angry). Especially those types of errors--so unique!

Agreed completely. When Londonbus1 first posted I was stunned. And such beautiful stuff. How you can show so much restraint amazes me. I'd be hopping up and down shouting my Never Agains. Does your house insurance or something else cover it?

bobstew617, kasvik.....I am devastated, it kind of sunk in around Thursday evening. Not much I can do except keep my eyes open and ask around. There will be an announcement at the next bourse when I will put up 'wanted' posters of some of the images. There are no security cameras in the rooms of the bourse and that's something they are now talking about. Bit late for this occasion. The Israel Philatelic Federation gets no public funding. It was very busy around my table with a lot of sales for over an hour and my Grandson was not there to help me this time as school has just started. I took my eye 'off the ball' for a split second. The overriding feeling is that of sadness in that the thief is a regular and may well be there next time when the announcement is made. Thanks for your posts, they mean a lot. Londonbus1

I did not see this thread since a moment ago. I'm deeply sorry, Michael, for your loss. I agree with you, it's more the feeling that among, so-called, "philatelic friends" there could also be bad people, than the (I guess, relevant) monetary loss.

Michael ( Londonbus1), please accept my apologies for the slow response to your post. I am so sorry for your loss, too. Sadly, I have already had a similar experience many years ago under the same sort of circumstances, so I can empathize with how you must be feeling. Just as Joan ( cursus) points out, the deeper effect is the feeling of violation that someone did this to you, more than the value of the items. Frankly speaking, it is a traumatic experience when one’s trust in others is eroded by such a betrayal by another. Please accept my sincere sympathies for what has happened. My friendship and support are the best I can offer.

It is more than just the monetary value which no doubt is not insignificant, but also the loss of trust in a community you felt secure in. One can only hope that the perpetrator will be caught and charges filed, or at the very least ostracised, and your property returned to you.

I just can’t understand why anyone would want to risk losing their reputation in the philatelic community by stealing. Word gets around! Eventually they will be caught and then they will be ostracized and unwelcome.
I remember a while back - in the 90s actually - there was this one scammer who kept trying to cheat people in stamp trades. Even without the philatelic forums that we have today the word got around and despite trying to disguise himself using his wife’s name he found himself on every blacklist around. Sheesh! I couldn’t sleep at night if people talked about me the way they talked about that jerk. How can they look themselves in the mirror?

Hi Michael. I was shocked and very sorry to read your message on facebook and here. It is very upsetting. This guy will need to do a lot of thinking on the upcoming Yom Kippur. It's been a long time since I had an opportunity to go to a bourse or exhibition, but I will keep my eyes open. Perhaps some day these items will pop up. I guess you should write a notification on all relevant internet sites to the admins and then keep your eyes open for the sales on these sites (ebay, delcampe, collnect, stampworld, etc). I will try to look myself too. I wish you Shana Tova and only good news. Kostia
