Hi All, I reviewed my stamps and have come across two stamps that have part of an "arrow" on them. I can see from ebay ads that stamps like this are considered "freaks". As such, I am not able to look at online stamp catalogs and find their value. I've reached out to a few websites that say they offer appraisals...one told me they may not be able to help me, the other specialized in Canadian stamps and suggested i contact a company that specializes in US stamps. Does anyone have suggestions on appraisal companies that can do the appraisal based on photos, and also specializes in US stamps? I've pointed out the arrow below, with another arrow (red), lol! I'm going to continue my search for companies online, but look forward to any insights that people here can provide. Thanks in advance!

This is not a “freak” but a marginal plate layout marking. Note the straight edge at right. A larger “sheet” was severed into two “panes” and this arrow aided seeing where the cut should be made. Valuable? No. Collectible? Certainly.

Are you wanting appraisals for insurance value or estate valuation. Single better items or a box of assorted mish-mash. Why not first post a FEW items here. You can find out quickly if an appraisal is warranted. And it’s free:)

There may be a minor premium for nice stamps with marginal markings, here is a close match to the one posted. I paid a slight premium but not much.

Ok I am left wondering, so what is your question decentguy? 200% certain of what ? You have left us hanging……. Are you just asking if a vertical pair is special? Generally it is not unusual, Do you suspect it is an unusual printing in which case what do you want appraised ? Please….

decentguy, Most of us aren't mind readers so it would be helpful if you told us what you think you have (i.e., by catalog and number) and why you think you have it (e.g., perforations, paper type, printing method, color, etc.)

I'm guessing it's this, 25 cents or $25,000: I would ask that decentguy please provides an image of similar size to the post before his, both of the front and back of the stamps.

Ok So sorry guys what the hell have I caused here?? ... I agree with you all, reading over my post again I guess I can see all your points... I didn't mean to create all this confusion and misunderstandings ... Ok maybe I should have been clearer I get it... ok I got a lil issue here my puppy had chewed my Instanta gauge have already ordered one it's still in transit and I know it will be in transit for the next 3 weeks by the time it gets here on the other side of the world ... As a new member I needed to post something as I would hate to be another one who just joins this fun place and ends up not even posting once ... Having all those things on my mind I thought my two stamps I uploaded were the best idea to initiate my post...
Ok Now I got no perf gauge but some odd reason I really desperately needed to try and find out the perf on those shown stamps so what I did on each stamp I counted 11 holes which makes it 2cmm ... if whatever space left to the measure 2.5 millimeter going across the whole length of the stamp which is 22.5mm, then in theory and prac the perforation is 11 ... many might disagree with the way I came to that conclusion ... please speak out now or forever hold your peace

decentguy , Manipulating the image you provided, and assuming that you are correct in measuring the horizontal perforations as being 11, your stamp appears to be perf. 11x10½, making the pair Scott 632. Also, the design measurements on your "hoped for" stamp (Scott 594) are 19¾mm X 22¼mm (not 22½mm). Others may disagree with me so keep your hopes up.

very nice of you and thanks ... Ok Why do the holes need to line up ?? for instant what if the horizontal perforation being 11.24 and the vertical being a 10.85 that is still classified as (perforation 11*11) which will also put the holes out of alignment as you had kindly demonstrated ...
As from memory about a year ago with those same stamps I tried so hard for hours to line up the vertical perforation on 10.5 on .(4) different gauges and I couldn't get anywhere near the 10.5 on all different gauges ... Probably a better way to get a lot more accurate result is by properly measuring it Again with my new Instanta when it finally arrives, I am more than sure the reading will show between 10.85 _ 10.9
Others could see the point I am trying to make ... Plus Its always good to keep your dream alive ! true ?
