Thank you for posting this, Michael ( Londonbus1 ). I am so sorry to hear this, and my heart goes out to his family for their loss. I regret to say that I did not know Ron well, but I especially enjoyed the articles he wrote for the TSF Newsletter. He will be missed.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

So sad. I did not know Ron but recall several of his posts in my time as a member. His obituary paints a picture of a very talented and interesting man that is gone way too soon.

This is very sad news. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
I got to know Ron a little on this forum. It seems to me that Ron only did things in a superlative way both in his work and his hobby. His legacy, as far as stamps are concerned, will be his book the 'Field Guide to the Cinderella Stamps of Canada'. Ron discovered thousands of, previously unknown, Canadian Cinderellas and his Field Guide was highly praised and rightly so.
His discovery that Gaston Fontanille (Delandre) was behind the Bonne Année stamps was a major revelation. His subsequent book/catalogue, 'Delandre and the Bonne Année 1920 Stamps' was yet another outstanding catalogue and produced to a standard not found in any other work on Delandre.
Ron will be missed. Rest in Peace.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

For those who haven't come across Ron's posts that often, he was primarily interested in cinderellas, poster stamps, seals and such like, and as an authority on Canadian cinderellas in particular, his posts can be found throughout the extensive thread regarding them. If you have an interest in non-postage stamps then have a look at that thread, but allow some time for it as we have over 600 posts in that one thread alone. Ryan

Oh, dear. The news rouses my misanthropic side; never get close to anyone. Most of what I know about Ron's pet topics came courtesy of no one else. Topics I never would have gone near without his ebullient, almost unbelievable and infectious interest. His was such a rich thread, and it was such a small width of his life. Thanks to everyone who posted postpartum. Nothing more to be said by me.

So sad to see someone go so early!
I was unable to view his obit from the link above, there was a lot of chaff at the end of the link. Here is his obit in a clean link...

Just seeing this now. So sorry to hear this sad news. To young, to be certain. I didn't know Ron well, and only though this forum, but I was always impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm regarding Cinderellas. And I have to admit, I was always thrilled and honoured when he accepted my images for use in his books. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

He will certainly be remembered for his great work on Canadian Cinderella stamps. I had the chance to meet him when I picked up my first edition of the "Field Guide to the Cinderella Stamps of Canada" back in 2012. As I live in Montreal, he was offering local pickup. Great man!
Last week, I sent a note to his publishing company asking if the Third edition would ever be released as it was supposed to be ready by the summer (as he had mentionned to me before). If they answer back, I will share with everyone.
Rest in Peace Ron!
