Admin/ moderators: Please move if this is in wrong place or not wanted! I know that a lot of us have some favorite auctions that they visit, online or in the real world. And some might want to share that Auctions with other members. So I have been thinking a long time that it would be great to have a dedicated trad where we can share a link and maybe some info about our favorite auction. I will start with he upcoming Norwegian Skanfil Høstauksjon (Autumn auction). It is one day with coins, notes and medals and two days with Stamps, postcards and letters. Auction dates are November 9-13 2022. I see that the main menu is available in English, but the description is mostly in Norwegian. But with the help of Google translate you should get around it. All lots are listed with a picture I think. They send worldwide, but be aware of high Norwegian prostrates (especially if registered). There is also possible to download PDF catalog. Link to the Coin, notes and MedalLink to the Stamp, letter and postcardI look forward to see your favorite auction listed here.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Through the 1990's when I first arrived in Toronto I dealt with a couple of very small auctions. Their sales were one day events with maybe 300-400 lots. They are no longer in the business but the interesting thing about their sales was that the main competition on lots was always a man called Vance. As time went on I soon learned that Vance and his father before him ran a catalogue auction that does not have live sales. They own everything they sell. There is no evidence of consignment lots. Now most bids are placed on line. They still mail out a large 2 volume auction catalogue about every 2 months as well as the online access. They are very much old school. No buyers premium even though they accept credit card payments. They are well known and regarded in the Canadian stamp world having been in business 50 years. I started getting his catalogues about 5 years ago when a friend who had worked for one of the earlier dealers who held auctions went to work for Vance. I soon realized that they are a reliable source for many rarer items I was interested in. The rest is history. I am now a regular bidder. My success rate is not high but over time I have filled many holes I only dreamt of. They do business around the world. Here is their link: www.vanceauctions.com/

Catawicki is an European auction hose. Not just stamps but always a selection. Sales of different countries finish on different days. Nost auctions last 1 week. Web only auction with lots only from vendors, no auction house buy-ins. www.catawiki.com/en/

One of the few remaining Auction Houses in Stockholm is Philea, It's good place to obtain Scandinavian material, especially collections and accumulations.

I went to both of the above noted websites. They sell a lot of stuff but stamps is not one of them from what I can tell. If you are into gold coins or banknotes this is where to look. Stamps not so much. Nick

nick2302 Trying scrolling down the lists of items offered on these sites. On Skanfil the stamps are at the end of the list. ‘Does anyone know of a good auction house in Italy. Hoping to find some elusive roman states and Vatican varieties. Thanks!
