Hi, I cannot find information about this stamp have OS on it? Or maybe it is a fraudulent stamp?
Can anyone confirm this please?
The stamp is the green QLD one half penny (SG286)
I have not been able to work out how to upload my picture yet.
Thank you. Sash

Hi sashac18 , Welcome to the forum. Correction. I don't think that Stanley Gibbons list all perfin (perforated initials) stamps. In SG Commonwealth and British Empire Stamps they note that States perfins/punctured Official Stamps are outside the scope of the catalogue. They do, however, exist. Apologies for my previous version of my reply. Daniel

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

There are quite a few of the Queensland stamps with the perked OS listed on eBay. They do not have any great value. I suspect there are a few in my collection but I am away so cannot confirm at this time.

All of the Australian states had stamps set aside for OFFICIAL SERVICE to be used and separately accounted for by Government Departments on official mail .. some had OS as perforated initials, some has the letters as an overprint. They are collectible and quite common. The Stanley Gibbons catalogue lists them at the end of each state stamps. Correction daniel has checked and they’re not listed. Sorry

Hi Sasha - hope you manage to arrange some photos soon and thanks to carabop for the link, and whilst you get to grips with the camera, here are some examples from S.A. and Vict. showing the O.S. as a perfin and overprint - apologies - I can't seem to find any QLD - showing O.S. - just for the moment. However, I've also added a picture showing your stamp - SG 286 - without O.S. - just so that we can see an example of the stamp in question. Plus I've included what I believe to be a stationery item - please tell me if I'm wrong on that - my knowledge of the Oz States is very patchy. Sorry, in the first picture, I didn't realize that another of the same was hiding under the top stamp.

I've corrected my earlier post. I couldn't find a listing for any Queensland Official stamps neither in Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth Stamp Catalogue Australia nor in Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth & Brutish Empire Stamps. In fact in the latter catalogue there is a note which says States OS perfins are outside the scope of the catalogue.

SG is strangely inconsistent on these OS. It lists the perfins on Australia, and the overprints on NSW and South Australia. I don’t know why some and not all

A bit road weary but I am back in Toronto and see I only have 1 of the Queensland O.S. perforated stamps. I was surprised to see how many of the New South Wales ones I have that I will share on the appropriate thread.

As this really messes with my OCD of SG not having all of the states "OS" stamps listed in the catalogue, I have sent them an email to ask why and see if they have any information we could use to our benefit. I have a stamp or two not listed and it is driving me mad not being able to catalogue it appropriately. I will keep you all updated

There is one catalogue that DOES list the Perfin OS stamps of the Australian States such as Queensland : YVERT
Why Yvert lists these Australian States Perfin OS stamps (in basic form) while the other three of the Big 4 (Scott, Gibbons and Michel) do not is just one of those odd philatelic mysteries among the catalogue publishers.
