Taking a little side adventure today to Costa RicaI won a couple lots of Costa Rica which did a lot of good for my airmail and official sections of that country collection. I can't recall ever seeing the 1931-32 airmail set of three at the bottom of 1st page of airmails, it was what tempted me to bid more than I first considered. Showing the first Semi postal page, 1st and second airmail page, a long set (-1), of famous dudes. and newly updated 2nd page of officials. Besides the officials I have also just added Postal tax and telegraph stamps to the website pages. Antoniu-Ra.com

Mitchell,
Nice pages, thanks for sharing. Quick question....I noticed that sometimes you have a stamp mounted on top of another. Just wondering what's the purpose of this?
Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the Stamp Forum! It is a very common among collectors and is done for a couple different reasons. Often the bottom stamp is the same stamp but is either mint or used and is the opposite of the top stamp. If I have a choice the top stamp will be mint so as to best display the design. If I show a mixed set of mostly used stamps the stamp under the mint stamps would most likely be a used one that completes the used set. The other reason for the bottom stamps is to have a place to put shades or subtypes. Often times after I have a good many of these I will make a new page/pages to accommodate the different varieties.

Chris, I agree that French colony stamps, in general, are very attractive and also exotic. The same can be said for most other countries colonies, like G.B., Italy, Spain, Germany etc. I think most collectors concentrate on the major countries themselves before diving into the colonies which are often times more difficult to find. Today the Portuguese colony of FunchalLocated in the island group of Madeira, the two pages shown are all the issues produced.

Today the Galapagos Islands, a province of Ecuador with a population of Approx 25,000. These stamps were produced to commemorate the 125th anniversary of possession. They were valid for postage in Ecuador as well as the islands.

Next up, German Colonies Two types of stamps were used for the colonies. The first were stamps from the 1889 issues of Germany overprinted with the colonies name. The second type were stamps depicting Kaiser Wilhelm's Yacht, Hohenzollern. Printed in two different sizes and angles of view, they are one of the most popular areas in philately. Below a sampling from 3 colonies

I don't know why they're that much more appealing, but I've always really, really liked those large Kaiser yachts. They're just exceptionally attractive. Thanks for showing them, Mitchell!

For today the first page and two other from Gibraltar I've been listing stamps for sale on Stamp2Go for about year now. I have just figured out a way to link to just the stamps I am selling There are only a couple thousand listed so far but I am adding stuff at a faster rate than before. If you visit the link you need to click on the tab, at left, that says "view a different country" to see all of the listings. I generally price all my lisitngs at 1/3 of Scott and do not sell any stamps with the minimum catalog value but instead give them away with orders. I am offering a 10% discount for all regular posters of TSF, with more than 10 posts. Stamps listed are also available for trade, so if you see something I need on my pages, that you have and don't need, lets do a trade. My stamps for sale or tradeAntonius-Ra.com

Frog, Thanks, I'm glad to have your attention I've began scanning U.S. dupes to sell. I've sold all the best stuff long ago but I had a large dealers stock with probably a half million stamps. There are still lots of stamps that cat from $50 and under still remaining. Hopefully I'll have all the 19th century regular issues listed in the next couple days. I'll probably do the 19th century B.O.B. after than and before continuing to the early 20th century through the W/F's

One of the primary reasons for creating my site was to help collectors and non collectors decide on countries they would like to collect. Well, thanks in great part to your posts, I've realized that I'm really, really drawn to various colonial issues, especially the bi-color Commonwealth issues.

Today the mother country of the postage stamp Great BritainThe first and one of the most challenging countries to collect, it with it's colonies are rightfully one of the most popular areas of collecting. If I ever get semi rich I'll try reaching a much higher level of completion for the 19th century. Along with the U.S. it has always been one of my favorite countries, unfortunately the brick wall in front of completion is a bit farther away from both of them than it is with most other countries. Shown is the first page which shows the first four country postage stamps ever printed Not until Brazil in 1843 would another country issue postage stamps
