Nice lot jamesw ! It doesn't matter if the odd ones get a second showing........it's always nice to see them again (especially if they are not in my albums !). A envelope arrived today, a rare occurrence, and I believe I can add to this thread with those contents !! More later.

Kalamazoo Stamp Club issued these as Pre-show Publicity for their 1940 Exhibition. The Die-cut labels are in the shape of the State of Michigan !! Sadly, the venue Park American Hotel was demolished in the late 1960's.

The Cleveland Air Mail Society celebrated their 10th Anniversary in June 1939. Shown here are 3 sheets which also exist in Brown and Green to make a set of 5. As far as I know, these are the only souvenirs produced by this Society. The Exhibition was held at the Hotel Carter (formerly Winton) and this can be seen as a small picture at the bottom of the sheets. The Hotel was turned into apartments for senior citizens during the 1960's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winton_Manor

It seems like ages ago now since Beryllium Guy purchased for me a whole bunch of Souvenir Sheets from 'Westpex' as well as an excellent book on the history of the event. From then and until now I have not been able to add to that hoard but at last I have won a few more. I need to check back and see which ones have not been shown but here are the latest few. WESTPEX Issues from 1963 and 1964. Not full sets but beggars can't be choosers in the Exhibition hunt !!

Michael ( Londonbus1)!! It gives me great pleasure to see that you have landed some more WESTPEX souvenirs. How right you are, my friend! It does indeed seem like ages. That was a lot of fun for me. I was still a new member back then, and it was one of the first times that I started my own thread, and I was nervous that anyone would respond. It's already 3 years ago now, but I admit that it seems even longer ago than that. For the newer members who would not have seen it, here is the thread that recounts my adventures at the WESTPEX in California in 2017: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/4709/westpex-stamp-burlingame-california-aprilIt was a great event for me. I joined TSF in Nov-2016, and then promptly lost my long-time job in Jan-2017, and I was really down back then. Making this trip to WESTPEX and turning it into a mission of sorts, to find things for other members, and report back to everyone, made it a real adventure for me. It was one of my best experiences on TSF. I hope that each of you will have at least one of those! One of these days, I will get back to the WESTPEX again, never fear!

1938 MAINE PHILATELIC CONVENTION. October 15th, Portland, Maine, USA Unusual sheet in that you can stand it any of 4 ways in your album. Or, if you are so inclined, you can turn it around every so often for a different view ! OK, too much. A tongue-in-cheek effort.

It reminds me of the Wilkinsburg Stamp Club's annual spoof souvenir sheets, but this one is much earlier.

As far as I am aware, this is only souvenir issued by the Atlanta Stamp Collectors Club of Atlanta, Georgia. ATPEX, Old English Inn, Atlanta, 19-20 October 1974. If my information is correct, the Old English Inn in Decatur, Atlanta was used in the making of the movie 'Cannonball Run' ! (Just a useless piece of info). Londonbus1.......also useless !

Not strictly a Philatelic Event but I feel certain that stamps played a major part in this 1938 Antique and Hobby show. As they are from the wonderful hands of Henry Grimsland, I decided to put them here.

Back to Westpex, this time the year 2009. The aeroplane was doing some nice things on this sheetlet !! It is a tribute to Donald Evans, a successful Artistamp Artist who drew each Fantasy Nation stamp by hand !! He was killed in a fire whilst working in Amsterdam in 1977. In 2010, a Framed set of 20 stamps by Evans sold at Christies of New York for $17,500 ! Google him, some designs are mouthwatering ! (and I do not collect Artistamps!!!)

These are two of many, many covers produced for the 1936 International Philatelic Exhibition in New York to promote Gerhard Zucker's proposed American tour of North America. He had planned extensive rocket mail flights from Mexico to Canada. However, by 1936 he was in prison in Germany for mail fraud. His stamp agent, Karl Hennig (based in Hamburg and The Dominican Republic) went ahead with selling all of the covers anyway as souvenirs. This remains a matter of much confusion even today. It must have been made clear at the time that there were no rocket flights but with the passage of time that fact has got lost, all the covers have 'BY ROCKET/PAR FUSEE' etiquettes and are often sold today as genuine flown rocket mail. These covers feature stamps from the 1934 National Stamp Exhibition with the year altered to 1936, not usually very successfully. I have seen a mint set of 1936 overprinted ROCKET POST but never on cover. Scan_20200703 by Daniel, on Flickr

I've been thinking about the dramatic rise in prices realized for cinderellas on eBay and I recalled the recent availabilty of James Drummond's Philatelic Exhibition Labels, Part One. I have not seen a copy, but read a brief description of it that mentioned the inclusion of prices for the various items listed. Perhaps, it also mentions scarcity.
I don't want to imply that a monumental and useful work such as this one might be solely responsible for rising prices, but its availabilty may be increasing interest in cinderellas. Does anyone on this forum have access to this catalog? If so, could you scan a typical entry or page and post it here. I expect to purchase a copy eventually and would like to see how an item's entry is laid out and what information is included. Thanks.

Hi I thought that I would mention that the second volume of Philatelic Exhibition Labels is now available for purchase. Here is a link to it: www.ericjackson.com/rDetails1b.asp?cat=&CAT2=&rProductID=INV-268379&this=itIt's a little cheaper than the first volume, as the page count isn't quite as high. Jim Drummond

The Wilkinsburg Stamp Club have regularly issued exhibition souvenir sheets depicting American stamp parodies under the name of Upper Slobbovia. This was an invention of cartoonist Al Capp to denote a place that was underdeveloped and could also be Outer, Inner, Central, Lower or Lowest Slobbovia. Capp used it to refer to his hillbilly comic strip Li'l Abner which ran from 1934 to 1977. The second sheet is just a parody of Custer's Last Stand to which the club has attempted to add perforations, not entirely successfully. These two sheets are from 1968 and 1977. Followed by sheets from 1961,1962, 1963 and 1966 Scan_20200502 (8) by Daniel, on Flickr Scan_20200503 (5) by Daniel, on Flickr

Daniel's post of yesterday, 8/14/20 of some the Wilkinsburg Stamp Club's spoof cinderellas caught my eye, especially the Custer's Last Fight souvenir sheet, second image down from the top. It is the only Wilkinsburg cinderella that I have in my collection and I thought I would add a little background to it, both factual and personal.
As a boy of about 10 years old, my family and I lived on a small farm in western Iowa, and every Saturday, weather permitting, we would go to the county seat to shop for the coming week's necessities. The town had a number of taverns, one of which had a large front window facing main street and in the window was one of those ubiquitous prints of Custer's Last Fight distributed to taverns that were Anheuser-Busch customers. I was fascinated with the print and would spend as much time studying it as my parents allowed. A couple of years later, we took a trip out west and visited the actual battle site southeast of the present day Hardin, Montana, where, again, I was greatly impressed. So, when I saw the souvenir sheet by Wilkinsburg, I had to add it to my collection.
Cassilly Adams painted the original in 1885. It was a large three-panel mural that measured 9.5' by 16.5' and must have been quite impressive in its own right. Commissioned by a couple of art aficionados from St. Louis, the mural was toured and admission charged to view it. That did not produce much profit and it was sold to a saloon keeper in St. Louis. The saloon keeper went bankrupt owing money to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, which subsequently acquired the mural as partial payment. The brewery commissioned F. Otto Becker, an artist and lithographer, to scale it down and had it reproduced in large numbers. Anheuser-Busch then gave lithograph copies to all its distributors and retail vendors. I remember seeing these reproductions in bars and taverns well into the 1960s. Today, surviving lithographs sell in the low thousands. Anheuser-Busch gave the original to the 7th Cavalry. It was hung at Fort Bliss, Texas, and destroyed by a fire in 1946. More than most of you wanted to know about this cinderella, but many younger people (60 and under) probably have never seen the Anheuser-Busch lithograph and may not associate it with the Wilkinsburg souvenir sheet. With apologies to Daniel, I again post the Wilkinsburg sheet and, for comparison, a photo of the Anheuser-Busch print that inspired the S/S, taken from the internet. Don StampHinger

The Webster Philatelic Association issued 3 Souvenir sheets for their 2nd Annual Exhibition & Bourse on April 26th, 1941. The sheet shows the central figure of an Indian with a bow and arrow. The name of the nearby Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaug is inscribed in the surrounding circle. (no, I cannot pronounce that name !!). The Fields Picklo list tells me that this was the only event in Webster that issued Souvenirs. With names as long as that of the lake, I am not surprised !!
