Collection of philatelc club shows, picked up today Baltimore Philatelic Society 1938 BIPEX (the Bronx) 1939 OPS - Omaha Philatelic Society edit: just a note, I was curious what the number 46 was for in the star. I had an idea, and sure enough my assumption was correct. Oklahoma was the 46th state admitted to the Union on November 16, 1907. A question about the American Philatelic Society advance labels for the 1942 annual convention held in Cleveland.
Drummond's Philatelic Exhibition Labels, Part One, U.S. A to L lists but two styles, shown below, the difference being in the stars field with the different slogans. The Fields/Picklo list indicates there is a third style with a V but no slogan in the stars field .
Is Fields/Picklo correct? Are there three styles of this label or only the two below? If there is a third style can someone post an image?
Thanks.

This little gem arrived last week and judging from the number of bids, I wasn't the only one attracted to it ! A couple of you guys have had a sneak peek already and I have just found out that the card also exists in red !! Just another one to look for. Apart from a few postcards issued in 1967, these appear to be the only items issued by the club. Any further info on the Ravenswood Stamp Club, Chicago has been hard to come by and my guess is that they no longer exist. Two cards were printed for the Annual Exhibition in 1950 held in November, 4th-5th. The two stamp-like images show the club logo (shield). 200 of the red sheet were printed and 300 of the blue sheet. Both were printed using the Thermographic process giving a nice embossed-like feel and look. One of the classiest and good-looking of all the USA items I have found for clubs and Expos. A thing of beauty.....if I can so describe an item of a philatelic nature !! My card is number 204.

Couple of sheets celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Dayton Philatelic Society at their Exhibition in November 1946. A further issue in 1947 appears to be their last but I have seen commemorative covers with Dayton PS cachets. Today there is a Dayton Stamp Club but whether there is a connection remains to be seen. The sheets show various Ohio scenes and a central map.

I collected this souvenir sheet for my Centennial of the Postage Stamp cinderella collection, but also for the different name of the issuing organization, The Philaterians. I have never seen this term before. They produced a nice clean, uncluttered souvenir sheet.
Has anyone else seen other items from them or knows how long the organization existed? The Fields/Picklo catalog lists only this item. Apparently, it was a Chicago group, unless this convention was a regional or national one.

Single Souvenir sheets and Blocks of 4, both of which show the variety , 'nick on black bar' ! Organized by the Association of South Jersey Stamp Clubs.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This Cinderella could fit in at least 3 categories. It began life with the Jewish National Fund and found it's way to INTERPEX 1972 and visited the Canada Post booth I guess. As I have mentioned before I am not a Cinderella collector but some items are interesting enough that I do not toss them in the out box for sale or trade.

These four little give away cards with KGV 1/2d affixed from the International Centennial Stamp Exhibition (presumably 1940) at the British Pavilion and Gimbels famous stamp department New York city. These are advertising Dick Merril covers, flying from New York to London and back in less than 46 flying hours. Not something I have seen before and could not find on this thread using the search function. Graham

thegubman I wondered what $7 was worth in 1940 in today's money. I got a couple net search results including this one: $7 in 1940 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $146.15 today.
edit I think this card refers to the US CIPEX show held in NYC in1947 $7 in 1947 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $91.75 today

Daniel, I was just looking again at your post, and it hit me that the 1932 Olympic Summer Games were held in LA the same year as the APS Convention. So, I checked the dates, and the Olympics ran from 30th July to 14th August, and then the APS Convention started the day after the Olympics ended, 15th to 20th August, as shown in your stamps. Nothing great in that, I suppose, but I just thought it was interesting to see how the dates woud have fit. Anyway, thanks for your excellent post, as always!

Londonbus1 Thank you for the correction. I must admit I have never before heard of that exhibition. I found this little blurb: The Pavilion of Great Britain and the British Colonial Empire consisted of two buildings with a first-floor connection. The copy of Magna Carta belonging to Lincoln Cathedral also left Britain in 1939 for the first time to be in the British Pavilion at the fair.[18]: 129 Within months Britain joined World War II and it was deemed safer for it to remain in America until the end of hostilities. It therefore remained in Fort Knox, next to the original copy of the American constitution, until 1947.[citation needed] The pavilion included a collection of stamps celebrating Rowland Hill, and the 100th anniversary of the postage stamp. One of the stamps was the British Guiana 1c magenta. All news to me:)

very interesting JeffS - thanks. After Rowland Hill had published his 'Post Office Reform, Its Importance and Practicality' (probably c. 1838/9), and apparently almost as an afterthought, he added the suggestion that if every house was fitted with a letter box and postage was pre-paid 'the letter carrier would drop the letters and, having knocked, he would pass on as fast as he could walk'. The system he was advocating to change was a cash-on-delivery method, and apparently it was an enormously uneconomic system which involved the postie having to knock, wait, speak to the householder/servant (if they were at home), argue with the recipient over payment of postage due and sometimes with repeated visits to get an answer. All of which was a time and motion nightmare, so no wonder RH could see the need for change. So - can we say then that no only did he bring in the first adhesive pre-paid postage system, but seems he also brought about the invention of front doors with fitted letter box. Sorry - I mention this waffle (courtesy of Stuart Rose - whose book 'Royal Mail Stamps- a survey of British stamp design' is well worth a read) - since you mentioned RH's name. As for the 1c. magenta - seems this little goodie must have gone back and forth a number of times.
I have seen the Magna Carta - it's nothing to look at - I think there are four copies remaining - very difficult to read. Apparently all four copies, including the Lincoln and Salisbury copies, are now all housed in the Brit. Lib., London. So - what would we choose if we could own either the 1c. magenta or the MC. - I dare say the value of the latter would outweigh the stamp several times over - bit of a shame I suppose - I'd prefer the stamp, with its history etc., but maybe at the end of the day I'd take King John's piece of vellum simply because it's worth more - how mercenary can one person get ;-)

These International Philatelic Exhibition New York 1913 stamps have been shown multiple times in this thread but here is an example in Orange with only a partial NOVE(MBER) overprint. Also, three examples showing watermarks: CO DA, M MO and 0 21. I've also seen MASS (presumably for Massachusetts). I assume that these watermarks relate to the paper manufacturer rather than Hamilton Bank Note Co., New York.

The Society of Israel Philatelists produced a couple of sheets to celebrate 70 years of the Jewish National Fund at the 1971 'SEPAD' Exhibition. I no longer collect USA Exhibition material but these two turned up in an auction lot of JNF material !!! SEPAD = South East Pennsylvania and Delaware (Stamp Clubs)

A sheet of fifteen, Fields/Picklo calls them advance labels, advertising the 1963 American Topical Association annual convention in Phoenix, Arizona. They were issued perforated like this sheet, and imperf as well. The central design is a Hopi Kachina doll. The Arizona Society of Topical Philatelists apparently produced and distributed the sheet.
I'd like to find one or more on cover.

Continuing with the Arizona theme, here are two foil seals commemorating the 400th anniversary of the exploration and settlement of Arizona by the Spanish. These foil items generally don't scan well, but the first seal with the outline of present day Arizona is really quite attractive with its red, copper, and blue finish. The rectangular seal has a copper finish and is brighter than the scan reproduces. I have the copper seal tied to a cover from Steinfeld's department store in Tucson. I remember posting it in the Cinderellas on Cover thread. Don StampHinger

I think this is the best thread for this souvenir sheet for the 1939 Philatelic Truck tour. I suspect this has been shared before. The copies with no gum like this one are quite common. The glued ones demand a pretty steep price if perfect and unhinged. This link gives the best description of the tour and sheet that I could find. info.mysticstamp.com/this-day-in-history-may-9-1939-2/

I was rummaging in a covers shoe box and found this Trans-Mississippi Philatelic Society (TMPS) souvenir sheet inside a 1959 TMPS annual exhibition event cover commemorating the meeting held in Minneapolis, MN that year.
A large s/s, nicely printed and new to me. I have not seen this one before. It depicts a drawing of Ft. Snelling above the Mississippi River with a steamboat at the landing below. The fort was named after Col. Josiah Snelling, 1782-1828.
It is headed to my TMPS cinderella collection,
