thought this was a fun one. Got this at an auction today in a pile of junk (couple of other mildly interesting items, but the rest will be binned). This is a largish sheet (barely fit on my scanner) from the American Philatelic Society Convention in St. Louis MO in September 1956. It interested me because of the reproductions (cinderellas) of local St. Louis stamps and cancels that were included. And, yes, I know, the 1956 Wheatland stamp isn't a reproduction.

Do it if you must, but please don't broadcast, it sounds awful, and disrespectful.

Rocketmail , May be the way with Amazon looking to using drones (today's rockets) as a way to deliver packages to customers. Funny how the old tech reappears .

A Santa Monica that is new to me, 1936 installation of officers, fourth annual, and held at Emil's restaurant. Numbered sheet #4: Some degree of effort went into this sheet. You'd suspect that sheet #4 would've gone to an officer (not that it matters). Interesting choice of representative stamps, no? (Recognize them all?)

RE : A Santa Monica that is new to me.
Don't soak that sheet, the bottom right hand stamp has fugitive ink.

Rocketmail , May be the way with Amazon looking to using drones (today's rockets) as a way to deliver packages to customers. Funny how the old tech reappears . I see huge logistical issues in their future. First they (drones) can and will be hijacked. Secondly the clogging up of frequency availibility for their crystals (hell even my remote crontrol gets hi-jacked by the neighbors garage door opener) not to mention airspace conflicts with wires, buildings and other non-foreseeable obstacles...Just seems stupid to me.

HENRY GRIMSLAND 1889-1957 A notable engraver such as Grimsland would warrant his own personal thread, but as I am going to show some Exhibition sheets only, I will keep the post in the Exhibition arena. Norwegian-born Henry Grimsland made a name for himself for his beautiful Steel engravings . He started to produce Cachets for US New issues in 1933 and continued for each issue until ill health forced his retirement in 1951. Many of these are much sought after and are hugely attractive. Based in Chicago, he started to produce Labels/seals for local Philatelic Societies and Exhibitions in 1934, these too being high quality items and much sought after, especially by Cinderella enthusiasts. His last label sheet was for the 1951 North Shore Philatelic Society although it is said his engravings were used on souvenirs up to 1963 !! I have long wanted to add a selection of these [even one would have been something] but they are rarely seen and on the few occasions I had seen them, I was well outbid. Now I have managed to grab one or two. Beautifully simple and also simply beautiful. I cannot describe them otherwise. Not all of the above are Exhibition pieces, some are Convention or Society items. However, I just did not have the heart to seperate them ! If anyone has any Grimsland Cachet Covers please show them in the USA Covers section......we would love to see them !! Londonbus1

STAMPEX 1945. [Essex Stamp Club] I am trying to find out a bit more about some of my US items as information is a bit sketchy. This series from Stampex 1945 is quite a beauty to my eyes and I have asked someone to find out a bit more about them. In the meantime, here they are........ Londonbus1

POLPEX 1944, Chicago The Polonus Philatelic Society held an Annual Exhibition in Chicago during the years of WWII. These sheets from the 1944 show honour the airmen of the Polish Government-in-Exile in Great Britain. They fought the Germans both in their home country in the early days of Occupation and then over the skies of Britain during exile. Depicted on the sheets [Perf and Imperf] are the airmen in action and their planes on the ground. The stamp reproduced is the Government-in-Exile issue of 1941, 1 Zloty, showing a Vickers-Armstrong Wellington and Hawker Hurricanes. Londonbus1

The Grimsland issues are gorgeous. I haven't seen these ones before, thanks for showing them. I wasn't sure if you had seen the information page that came with the Polpex sheets or not as I have seen the sheets offered for sale without it so here's some scans of the front and inside in case you didn't get one. The back is blank. Rick

As far as I know this is the only Grimsland I have in my collection and its the only one I ever had in hand, the rest I've only seen on the computer screen. The one I have is printed on very heavy card-stock or actual cardboard. Londonbus is this the norm for what he produced or did he print them on all diff. papers and cardboard? Rick

Rick I have never seen paper and card examples for the same show/Society but there are examples of both kinds. All the ones I showed are on good quality paper, something Grimsland insisted upon I believe. His Cachets on cover are always on good quality envelopes. I have a couple more examples including one on card like the one you showed, which is absolutely stunning, by the way ! There is a good list here with scans but it's not complete as Grimsland didn't sign all his engravings. I have a sheet or two that I believe are his work but I have no confirmation. Maybe there isn't a complete list. A Book of his Cover Cachets comes with a list of Seals/labels but that is also incomplete. alphabetilately.org/grimsland.htmlThanks for showing close-ups of the Polpex Information page. I was outbid on the sheets and info long ago but recently picked up only the sheets. I will have to look out for them again. Londonbus1

CHIPEX, Hotel Morrison, Chicago, 1942 It looks for all the world that this sheet is an unsigned Grimsland, but the tiny lettering [bottom right] tells me otherwise. Of course it still could be, it looks so much like one........

STAMP EXHIBITION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, Los Angeles, 1946. This sheet also comes in a slightly larger [25%] version on stiff card, but in the same colour and design. It reproduces the famous British Guiana One cent which at the time was the most expensive stamp in the world !!

SOJEX 1945, Camden New Jersey. Another fine example of US Exhibition and Club material. The era of the 30's and 40's saw so many fine items.
This National show was organized by the Association of South Jersey Stamp Clubs.

A.P.S. Convention from 1939. They sure made some nice labels and sheets for these gatherings. And they had less money in those days too !! Wonder what went wrong. Here's another A.P.S. item but overprinted by the Chicago Philatelic Society to celebrate their 1000th meeting in 1928. I have another 4 colours of this sheet but there may be more. I seem to remember seeing others but am not 100% sure. Londonbus1

The Central Federation of Stamp Clubs, Chicago. 'International Philatelic Week, 1940'. The sheet shown exists in various shades of blue [see below]. Most often seen is the central part of the design, most likely cut out from damaged sheets. I have not found evidence that these exist as labels only. A fine way to celebrate the Postage Stamp Centenary..........a subject worthy of it's own thread for the USA alone !! Londonbus1

CHICAGO PHILATELIC SOCIETY The CPS was formed in October 1886 and along with the APS are the oldest Philatelic Organizations in the USA. Over the years, but especially between 1930-1960 they have produced many fine Philatelic Souvenirs for meetings, conventions and Exhibitions, most notably those engraved by Henry Grimsland. [See Philatelic Exhibitions-USA]. Below are two sheets produced for the 69th Anniversary in 1955. Londonbus1
