Since we're talking about the pluralisation of surnames, that is, multiple Arnold Machin stamps are Machins, then stamps designed by Martin Jennings would be Jenningses (and we're not referring to the possessive case here). Jenningses may not trip off the tongue so easily. Sure, call me pedantic Daniel How about M.J.'s That would get my vote but I may be a bit impartial to it since that is my nickname. Mike

Even though I have LOOOOOONNNGGGG since quit collecting world wide (back when I was just a wee bit of a teenager), I have been following this fascinating thread.
One of my favorite stamps to collect was the one of the good Queen in profile on the UK stamps. Until now I never knew they were called Machins. And while I don't like to see anyone die, it is rather exciting to see a new profile coming out with the good King Charles and his profile.....along with a debate on what the stamps will be called.
While I do like M.J.s as noted in a reply above (my real life nickname), I do much prefer the Jennings (Jenningses???) identifier.
It will be interesting to see what will happen when William takes the throne and Kate...at least from my understanding...will also become Queen (Consort?). Will she also get her profile on a stamp? I hope to live long enough to see William become King. Well enough of my ramblings in a stamp forum I don't even collect in...but do take a fascinating interest in. Mike

I received the following Machins today from a reliable eBay seller, just about to add them to my specialist collection . I do have to say since my favorite colors favors towards black and red those top two stamps do have a rather appealing look to them.

Last month, I won a bunch of Machin booklets at auction - now in a filled Lighthouse binder on Vario pages. Next step is to try to organize them and see what is missing. Will likely take several days to do. Here is just one page as an example. No end to what you can do with these stamps.

I have always liked the composition of this type of booklet as well as the subject matter depicted on them. I have bought 2 copies of each one, since they were first issued by Royal Mail. I keep 1 copy intact & add the definitives & commemoratives to my GB collection in line with the albums I use. So far I have the complete set + several with flaws.

drblade I would really like to see your collection and get tips on how to organize the Machins. I won a stack of these booklets at this auction, but allowed myself to be outbid on some lots to keep the total cost down. Now sorry I wasn't more aggressive. Will likely be a lot more expensive to fill in holes.

It never really occurred to me to "display" them in albums or similar. If you give me a few days I will try & set them up to be scanned. The booklets that I split (second copies) I take 1 of the definitives out and put it into my specialist collection, (shown earlier in this thread) The commemoratives are then added to my main GB collection, which there is usually a printed space for in the albums I use. Any spare stamps i.e. 3 definitives are either used or returned on the current Royal Mail swap out scheme unless I find any with errors/flaws.

I always wondered how collectors that collect stamps and covers integrate (if that is their goal) them into a single collection. I know Rod (the guy that started many of the threads here but no longer posts here) tries to mount on pages with the stamps. His collection is on Steiner pages with many adding pages.
As for Machins, I do not have many booklets but when I finish my "singles" album I will be adding pages for prestige booklets. Starting in 2012 or so many new catalog numbers for denominated Machins were from prestige booklets. I am organizing by year so booklets can just be additional page. I may create a page or just use Varios.
For now. I do have a separate binder with Vario pages where I keep the booklets, etc. for now.

Prestige booklets are a big busines for the Royal Mail. Yes Prestige booklets are more expensive than the commemorative booklets in my last post but I think the majority of them are impressive designs.

Finally got "the dagger perforations" pair via Stanley Gibbons online auction today. Not sure if I should put them into my main collection or my specialist Machin collection. SG Cat numbers 2039b & 2040b.

Wow drblade, looks like you got an excellent price for the pair. Comparing with the eBay prices from another dealer, you definitely got a bargain. I suppose you'll have to wait for another pair to appear to turn up, then you won't have the difficulty of deciding in which album they should go For now, I'd personally tuck them into my specialised collection.

Yeah, but even if you did buy both pairs, that’s less than half price what bbst**ps is charging on eBay. Hey, if you do see them again at such a reasonable price, you could possibly give me a tip-off cheers

I will be looking in on the Gibbons auction in future because having seen a lot of the item sales prices they seemed reasonable.

I'm just about to add the individual denominations of the first scanned pane to my specialist barcoded Machin issues album of Q.E. II. The £1 will have the label attached & one of the 50p stamps will have part of the pane design left attached as proof of source. The pane is from the Unsung Heroes Prestige Booklet issued last year. The "year code" on these stamps does not exist & is printed as MAIL as would be the counter sheet types. Also with the other panes in many booklets the commemorative stamps differ from the issued sheet stamps and those of miniature sheets also differing. My main album page supplement is usually pre-printed with different commemorative types from these sources. So waiting to see which type is needed means little organisation & some chaos??? The other commemorative pane from this booklet has been added to my "main" album already.

Hi all, I have just received the scanned booklet from eBay today. The backing paper appears to be (clearly) 1 upright. The codes are correct M20L MTIL. My problem is that I cannot find a Deegam profile for 1 upright. Can anyone advise please if 1 upright is listed. Thanks for any replies.

Just thought I might add some more detail (or chaos) if you are collecting the bar-coded Machin & King Charles stamps at the moment. Identifying the security backing paper types seems to have different interpretations as follows.
BECAUSE THE COUNTER SHEETS ARE PRINTED SIDEWAYS, THERE ARE TWO VIEWS ON HOW THE BACKING PRINT SEQUENCES ARE TO BE IDENTIFIED, MBPC/DEEGAM HAVE DECIDED TO READ THE SEQUENCES HAVING THE QR CODE TO BE POSITIONED AT THE TOP OF THE STAMP QR-TOP, SO IN THIS POSITION THE SEQUENCE WILL BE CODED (SBP2i) INVERTED, HOWEVER SG HAS DECIDED TO VIEW THE STAMP WITH THE QR CODE TO THE RIGHT IN THE NORMAL UPRIGHT POSITION QR-RIGHT AND HAS CODED THE SEQUENCE PB (L) - Ls UPRIGHT, THE (L) REPRESENTING READING LEFT TO RIGHT, WHICH SHOWS THE SEQUENCE TO BE UPRIGHT. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO COUNTER SHEETS.
