I have started collecting Germany lately, so I bought several lots last week and the first one arrived yesterday. not a bad lot, it will fill a few spaces in the book for me. As you can see, a lot of them are cut down, but they were cheap, so I can use the ones that are good and a few of the harder to get ones as space fillers until I can get good ones.

I bought a nice lot of Ohio Tax Stamps, but got one that I just can't figure out. LOL. Here is both sides of stamp:
Yes, this is actually blank, no printing. I haven't seen this before, but I have one now. No way to ever know what it was supposed to be.

I usually count on 10-20% winning of what I bid on, so I always bid on more than expected. But, this week, at European auction house, I won about 75% of what I was bidding on! Wasn't expecting that, but it was a good thing I had enough money to pay for them all. LOL.
Pete, Good luck with the auction lots tomorrow.
Lately I've been lucky to win 10% or so of the lots I'm bidding on. Considering I've been concentrating on mostly French and British colony material lately not easy winning the lots at a decent price.

Well, had another good week on Ebay. Bought this sheet with a lot of good stamps, and I even needed a few. But, the weird one, is the stamp with no imprint on either side. Haven't seen one of these, and I sure didn't have one, until now. The blank stamp also shows the actual color difference of the two side of an Ohio Sales Tax Stamp. This might explain the slight color differences on some stamps, depending on the side of the sheet they print on.

Hey, Mike! Good to see you digging into those German issues and postmarks! You have no idea. LOL. I seem to go off the deep end when I start new things. I have already bought a Scott album, fairly stocked with mint & used stamps, a Lighthouse Hingeless Germany (Berlin) album 1979-1989 almost complete, a Lighthouse Hingeless Germany Album 1952-1979 with some stamps, not a lot though, a Germany Lindner Hingeless Germany Album 1948-1975 (almost complete), and also a few Old German States small collections. I find it easier to get the albums I want by buying a used album with stamps. Then I take it and rearrange things the way I want them. Saves a lot of money and I wind up with really nice albums.

The question is, was this stamp issued and subsequently used or was it fabricated from a multiple that was sold off after the State discontinued the system? We'll likely never know the answer... Hey Steve, But, I think this was issued. First, you only have half of it, which means someone tore it apart. Second, look a the serial number, it is way off from where it should be. I think that page didn't get all the way in the printer from the second color and cutting. Just my opinion. Thanks, Mike.

Well, On Monday I received my latest Ebay find. I have acquired the elusive "PODGE Y's" Ohio Tax Token. I know this isn't a stamp, but in the Ohio Tax Stamp Collectors book, the auctor, Monte Dean, listed the only 3 Ohio Tokens that had the word TAX on them, so I now have all 3. This is the token that author of the book couldn't even get a picture of, but just had a rubbing. Earlier this year, I was able to find an actual picture of the token on some website I found on accident. The actual token came up on Ebay about 2-3 weeks ago, and I bought it. Maybe paid more than I would have liked, but I have the only one I have ever seen for sale to date, so who cares. LOL. Here are pictures of the three token together.
I just decided to look in the book for more information to add to this posting. My token is a 5 cent token and the one in the book, along with the picture I found earlier this year are both 10 cent tokens. This means that there are actually 4 tokens now, and I have the only 5 cent one known. Wow, even I didn't know this until just now. I thought I had the one listed in the book. Oh well, now I have another token to find. lol.
The seller on Ebay included a note to me, that he was forwarded by another token collector. The note states that the the name on the token and restaurant came form the owners name. The owner was listed in the 1906 directory as Jos. Wyss, (Y's). It is also believed the Podge, pronounced Podgey, was his nickname. So, the restaurant name was actually a funny version of his own name apparently, Podge being his nickname and the Y's for a shortened version of his last name. It is funny how we come to obtain information some times.
Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas. Mike.

If you have a smartphone, you can download an app for a magnifier. I have "Cozy Magnifier" from the App Store, but it all depends on how good your camera is also. Mine is a 12MP. It isn't the best for real clarity on really, really, small parts you need to see, but for everyday use it works pretty good. I have better ones, but this is just easy. You just have to make sure it is on a steady surface, which I was not doing here, LOL. Here are pictures of the magnifications it can give you. This is the edge of a perf 11 stamp.

Mike, very nice! What is the source of the "only 20 pairs" number? That number comes from the old Hubbel catalog I believe. But it doesn't add up to me. It said that their were 20 pairs and 20 singles known. But a sheet is 100 I believe. That would only account for 60 of the 100 on the sheet. There should be more than that out there.

Mike, Nice find! I think the Dean categorization for that error would be CO-1c-7B (C) with the (C) error type being no inset color. Here is the counterpart to your error block, a CO-1c-7B (K) (1x2) -- inset color only. WOW. I have an entire 6 cent with serial number that looks like this and a 2 cent half, that was used, with the serial number after it to go with it. I have never seen the one you have. Great stamp Steve.

Here is an example of a pair of CO-1c-7Ba that I acquired this week on Ebay. It does pay to make stupid offers on high priced items on Ebay because sometimes people will sell it to you cheap if they aren't a stamp collector. Seller wanted $699 for this pair and I offered a stupid, ridiculously low, low price and he took it, didn't even counter off which amazed me. The top stamp is a regular complete printing stamp and the lower picture is of course the error stamp.

Well, today I received one of the rarest of all Ohio Tax stamps in the mail. It is a CO-1c-7Ba pair. The stamp only went through the first printing and never got the second color printed apparently. Supposedly there are only 20 pairs in existence, so I am lucky to have bought it. I already had the single of this stamp, but not the pair. It is getting harder every day to find Ohio tax stamps that I actually need, since I am getting down to only needing the rare stamps now. Hope your day is as good as mine today. I have also shown the regular single stamp for comparison.

Hello, I found the forum when I was searching for information about Ohio prepaid sales tax stamps. I was really impressed with the article that was posted about them. I have inherited stamps collected by my parents, mainly by my father who worked in a post office for about 40 years. Of course he always had to buy every stamp that came out it seemed. Also, since he was a clerk, he often was given used stamps, both US and foreign, by his customers. There are many different types of stamps, including some of the Ohio stamps and other Cinderella stamps. I did do some work with stamps when I was young, but don't really now even though I like looking at them. I may try to decide if I have anything worth much, but have already donated some used stamps to the APS headquarters, which are not far from me. I plan on giving them some more soon. I do have quite a few unused UN stamps, US plated blocks and more. If there is anyone that is knowledgeable about UN stamps I would love to hear from you. Welcome. If someone here doesn't know the answer to any question put to us, then you don't need to know the answer anyway. Fortunately for you, there are several of us who are knowlegable about Ohio Tax Stamps. What would you like to know about them? Just ask us. Mike.

Wow, jimwentzell , what an impressive room! This needs to go in the new My Stamp Room thread! Bon courage with the continuing move! Hey, don't you mean this needs to go in the "Stamp Room Hall Of Fame"? Who else has a sink and microwave in their Stamp Room? Go ahead, raise your hands. Ok, here is my stamp room. This is just beside the couch where I actually work on my stamps. All of my stamps are stored in 3 white cabinets with doors on them in the back room, which no one in my house would dare even open. If I spend too much time in the back room, the wife complains about it, but I can sit on the couch, and work on stamps, all nite, every nite, and she doesn't care. LOL.

Well, I kinda figured that, but they changed the letters too. That's what has me thrown off. From CEAC to CEG^. Since I have 3 of the 10 sets with those letters, it does show that they did redo the entire sheets, which I am sure were messed up.
On another note, on Ebay this week someone has listed an entire sealed box of $1.50 stamps. It is the same series of letters that I have 6 of the boxes, and Monte Dean shows as the sealed box in the book. That accounts for 8 of the 10 boxes with that letter sequence. I am just wondering how much I am going to have to pay for that dang box. LOL. Monte has 1000, I have 2,3,4,7,8,9000, and the 5000 is on Ebay now. How is it that these boxes have all survived intact? Added Note Later: I forgot to bid on the box of stamps!

Hello Mike, Your last message provided the clue to solving this problem as I know with absolute certainty that AlbumEasy makes no attempt whatsoever to contact the internet. However, when you click the 'View PDF" button AlbumEasy launches the default PDF viewing application on your computer. So in this case it is not AlbumEasy that is attempting to contact the internet, but your PDF viewing application which is the problem, so removing AlbumEasy is not going to fix the problem, you will still have the same issue whenever you try to view any PDF on your computer.
Looking back at your earlier posts I examined the screen shot you provided more closely and notice that it is not AlbumEasy but rather a program called FromDocToPDF that is attempting to contact the internet. FromDocToPDF is malware and I suggest that you remove it as soon as possible. Googling for "FromDocToPDF malware" returns a raft of answers, some of which describe a manual method of removal and others that try to convince one to pay for a removal tool. Once you have FromDocToPDF off your computer, if you want to try AlbumEasy again, I can assure you that it is absolutely safe. Clive Hey, I do not have FromDocToPDF on my computer because I didn't install it when it asked me to. That is what I am saying. When I tried to open the PDF, it tried to get me to install it, but I just cancelled it. I have a full PDF viewer on my computer, so I should have never got that install request. I am running Windows 7, if that makes a difference. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mike, AlbumEasy is completely stand alone. Simply download the installer from the internet and execute it on your computer and it will install AlbumEasy. When running the installer you will likely receive a warning that the software is from an "unknown publisher", that is because I have not purchased a digital certificate which costs a few hundred dollars.
There is absolutely no communication with the internet whatsoever, neither when the installer is run nor afterwards when the application is being used. The source code is published and open to inspection by anyone with a programming background. So I am not sure why you are receiving warnings that it tries to access the internet.
Hopefully you can get this sorted out, if you do, I would be curious to know what the problem was in case others are having similar issues. Clive
My Norton stops it from contacting the internet every time I click the "View PDF" button. I have even deleted the program and reinstalled it. It still does it every time. I am just going to delete it from my computer. Thanks, Mike.

Why does this program want to access my data from websites and control my themes? This has nothing to do with printing pages. Hi Mike, I initially assumed that you are getting that message when you are trying to view a PDF from the web site? Perhaps on your phone?
However, after further thought I am wondering if you are getting that message after pressing the "View PDF" button in AlbumEasy, in which case, all AE does is launch the default PDF viewing application on your computer, and it is that application that is generating the message.
Let me know, Clive
OK, so I downloaded the file since I didn't get the message that I did before this morning. When I opened the file, I noticed a quick warning from my Norton Security. I went and checked the Norton History and it had blocked "Internet Explorer Temporary Files". This means that your program was trying to change my Internet Explorer, just like the first message I got warned me about. After you open StampEasy, when you click the "Open" button, it tries to access the internet every time. I did this several times and Norton stopped it every time. Why does it do this?

No, this was when I clicked the download button from the link you provided. I did it again this morning and see that you changed it this week, so that it no longer has this message. Thanks, Mike.
