Couple of interesting items, again picked up in local auctions. First two scans are a part booklet from the 1918 'Herzl issue'. Stamp and similar items have been shown previously, halfway down page 2 of this topic. Half of the panes remain and the front cover is missing but the back cover is interesting because it gives the cost of the booklet in the currencies of the countries to which they are shipped. So 40c in the USA, 1s 8d in Britain and Empire etc. ! The text is in Hebrew and Yiddish and tells me there were 20 labels in the booklet (only the 1918 issue contained 20). This issue was printed and dispatched from The Hague in the Netherlands but I have no idea of printer as yet. The cover of the booklet below remains but there are panes missing. These are from another Herzl issue and apart from the dark green stamps, the cover tells me they were printed by the Goldberg Press in Jerusalem so the year of issue was 1938. All JNF stamps from 1921 were printed in Palestine (later Israel). These booklets were of 6 panes (2x2) and the stamps Perf 11½. The front of the booklet cover says 'Herzl Stamps of Keren Kayemet L'Israel' (Jewish National Fund). The back cover has 'Jerusalem' and the year '1937-38' in the centre and below 'The Goldberg Press Jerusalem'. Interesting, given the relationship between the Jews and the British at the time, that 'Palestine' was in brackets in the English inscription. Londonbus1

'Although the first chapter of B’nai B’rith Women was created in 1909, World War I dramatically expanded women’s role in social work. During World War II, BBW aided European Jews and participated in civil defense projects in the United States, as well as jobs in industries such as manufacturing that had been traditionally limited to men. BBW also made significant contributions to help the newly created state of Israel. Although gender roles after the war reverted to a more conventional structure, BBW continued its work, and in the 1960s, shifted its efforts to reflect the antipoverty and feminist campaigns of the period. B’nai B’rith Women fully declared its independence from B’nai B’rith Interntional by changing its name to Jewish Women International in 1995.' The original 'Wise Son' by Arthur Szyk was very different to the one he produced here for the American League for a Free Palestine (NY) in 1945. He took one of the four sons he designed for a 1939 Passover Hagaddah and turned him into an American Soldier complete with helmet !! The stamps come from a Booklet entitled 'There were Four Sons' with pages of text and 4 panes of the stamps (5x2), 40 stamps in total. The ALFP was launched in 1944 by Irgun member Peter Bergson (Hillel Kook) to raise funds for the Hebrew Committee of National Liberation in Palestine and to help the push for a Jewish State. I found this set of 4 colours in one of the local auctions together with a few other choice items, and at a very good price.

A souvenir sheet from 1985 marking the 50th Death Anniversary of Baron Edmund de Rothschild, the so-called 'Father of the Yishuv'. Inscriptions both on the sheet and marginal in Hebrew and English. The stamps are perforated 13x14. Rothschild's portrait by Hermon Shetrok. The bottom left stamp shows an entrance to Ramat HaNadiv, beautiful gardens and burial site of the Baron. Other sheets exist for this issue.

Here's a few from Philatelic Exhibitions held here in Israel. There are many more labels and sheets to be found I am certain. 'Taba' 1952 held in Haifa, April 13th-17th. 'Tabit' 1970 Tel Aviv 18th-29th October Be'er Sheva 1990 held during the Succot holiday 5th--12th October Jerusalem 1973, 25th March-2nd April. Perforated. 'Tabira', Jerusalem 1968. Part of a set. Maybe a Souvenir Sheet ? World Stamp Exhibition and 50th Israel Jubilee, 1998. Held at the National Exhibition Centre in Tel Aviv, May 13th-21st. This was the best Expo I have attended in Israel. Most events since have been smaller with less dealer participation. Cost is everything (I guess). The label below is a Self-Adhesive type produced in strips of 5 and show a typical Israeli worker known affectionately as 'Srulik'. 'Israphil' 1985, Tel Aviv. More of the same design (see above) from Jerusalem 1968. Jerusalem 1973, as above but Imperforate.

With eBay, Delcampe, Facebook and the like still off limits due to the postal uncertainty, I have switched my Cinderella searches to local auctions and have found a few decent ones through Bidspirit. Mostly I have managed to pick up my items in person to save on postage and to get some exercise wondering around the philatelic cabins of Tel Aviv. And there are bargains to be had when compared to the aforementioned outlets. Included in recent finds are these two small sheets, varieties of which were first shown here by Rod back in 2015 (see page 1). Compared to the single sheet on white paper shown back then, here below are two sheets on yellow paper and with only horizontal roulettes. The colour shades on all of the labels are different too but the designs appear to be the same. More to search for no doubt !

Whiners, complainers and idiots ?? Really ? Is that a complaint about my complaint about complainers? And idjits doesn’t necessarily mean idiot - this is the definition -“ A term of endearment for a person you love but who is still frustratingly making a mess of everything.” No need to twist words Terri. I am merely trying to establish what type of negative messages you have been receiving about the 'Mystery Stamps' topic. It is not something that is befitting our forum and as a Moderator I consider it a duty to find out. No more than that. Londonbus1

JeffS.......a quick search tells me that there is a vibrant and active Jewish Community in Austin and many JNF events are held there, likely because of this. How far back this goes I have not yet found, so still looking for a more historic connection (1939).

Hi JeffS.......I believe we have spoken about this one before. You even sent me a copy (for which I am grateful) This is a Jewish National Fund label from the New York Office, 1939. It is one of 99 stamps issued by the Hebrew Educators Council (USA) in booklets entitled 'JNF Quiz Replies 99 stamps'. 11 panes of 9 (3x3), Perf 12½. The booklets were accompanied by cards which asked questions in Hebrew and English and there were spaces for the stamps by each question. I have never seen a complete card/booklet nor am I likely too. Single stamps come up occasionally but are not cheap so I pass them by. Most of the stamps depict scenes, stories, personalities or events from Judaism and Palestine which brings me to your stamp, Austin Texas. This stamp is one of only two representing the USA. One covers funds made in the USA by the Jewish National Fund but quite why Austin was chosen and what the question was to get that answer is not known to me. I have never seen a quiz card nor have I found one online. So that is a mystery.......one to be solved still. I will move our posts to the JNF section. Londonbus1

There are not that many issues from Argentina, just a long series in different colours and a few expensive types before. The problem with images in the catalogue (Rochlin) is that they are small and cannot be scanned so looking for actual stamps is better. I can send you images of the few items I have but adding to the collection is almost impossible as prices are very high and the stamps rarely seen. The first two issues have never been seen by this writer !!

Off to teach the Israeli Philatelic population the fine art of Cinderella collecting.
The sun is shining, the car is packed.
Spring is here but the war gives it a whole new feeling.
But today it's all about stamps.

Been condensing some of the albums to take more stamps and covers to the Fair (Bourse) on Tuesday. Almost ready, just a bit more pricing to do and then a couple of decisions to make whether to take items not in the selling plan. The suitcase and bags are half-packed !!! I managed to free a few old binders which went to the re-cycle bin. Also, I re-packed 3 'sold' lots from late September which were returned because of the war. A diplomat friend is coming to the British Embassy and the Consulate in East Jerusalem for a day, so we will meet and he will post those packets when he returns to London. I hope it won't be long before I can get all my 'purchases' that are left hanging in all corners of the world because of this conflict. Londonbus1

2004 Ottoman Clocktowers set of 5. Designed by Zina and Zvika Roitman. Values of those shown here are NIS1.30, from sheets. A prestige booklet was also issued to coincide with the National Exhibition 'Telabul'. The values were different.

There is life in the old collection yet !!!!! After more than a decade of searching I have finally nabbed a copy. The last time I bid for one of these was around 10 years ago and I opted out at £89. Some years later I met a fellow collector online. She showed me her copy of this 1963 Stampex sheet signed by Pietro Annigoni. So I told her how I had long been after a copy but that they were scarce. Then she came to TSF. Her name was sarah , later to become one of our special posters on the topic of Queen Elizabeth II. It was fitting therefore that it was Sarah who gave me the heads-up about this sheet which I have won tonight. So, many thanks to her. It was also cool that I didn't need to bid anywhere near £89 to win this copy.

A 4-month long Festival of British Jewry took place in various locations throughout Great Britain in 1985 (Feb-June). The Festival marked the 225th Anniversary of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the 40th Anniversary of the end of WW2. Exhibitions included those of Jewish Heritage, Music, Art and Cuisine. Events included those with emphasis on the Holocaust and for Israel's Independence Day. A commemorative label was produced but printer unknown.

One of more of these have surely been shown elsewhere, maybe even by me. But I think they merit their own thread so we can see (hopefully) what is available. Questa printed Panes of one 1st class stamp for use on Greetings cards sold by the Pharmacy, Boots in 1994. The stamp was perforated but the pane was rouletted 8 for ease of folding onto the card in Boots outlets. The pane showed their logo in the margin. Later, other retailers of greetings cards joined in the project and a year later another pane, without the logo, was issued. In 1997, a further issue by Enschede with roulette 10 appeared. Any or all of these panes have been overprinted, at first by GB dealer Rushstamps and their popularity grew. Later others joined in with their event overprints. Most overprints are from Philatelic Exhibitions worldwide. More to come..... Below is an example of Rushstamps promoting their own !! 40 years dealing is no mean feat. Londonbus1

Managed to squeeze in a bit of stamp time between babysitting and child-minding. Thanks to member sarah , my interest in British Philatelic Exhibitions has been revived with a nice possible addition. This comes just after I found another item for the otherwise dormant collection. Thanks also to Beryllium Guy for passing on the message after contact was lost. It means I will be changing direction regarding my Philatelic cull of unwanted and out-of-favour items. I will now be selling large parts of my GB Cinderellas and ephemera alongside all the other stuff. Tomorrow I will make a kind of sales post (for future sale) to see if there is any interest here as I would rather the items go to folk I know who deserve a very advantageous price. But most of the items are non-postage !! Today I have been pricing items for the Bourse next week. I will continue this tomorrow. Still not worth risking international mailings but the situation is changing so I hope it's not too long before I can sell online again. when it's all done I can concentrate on adding to what is left. All good fun. Londonbus1

Some of the terminology at those links posted by djcmh are a bit odd to an Englishman !! For curiosity I checked both the GB (UK?) issues and none are personalized. Some of them could be personalized, but examples of those were not shown. The other lot were locals and private posts not issued by the Post Office. With terminology being what it is, and not global, one could easily get confused when looking at lists like this. Is there a way to make it more clear for such countries. The 2 sheets from Israel are not personalized either. Interesting items though from other countries. I just wonder how many are personalized. Londonbus1

I've scanned the JNF overprinted stamps that were in the glassines. As mentioned before they all had Simon catalogue numbers some with sub categories which are the colour variations for this series from what I have read. Looking at an earlier post from Londonbus1 he has shown the full series in strips of 5 without the postal overprint. Thanks for posting these too darrenk !! I may, at some point, start another thread for these issues that were overprinted for use on mail during the War of Independence. So these posts may be moved but in the meantime they fit well here. (Just need a bit more time for stamps !!). They really should be a subject by themselves with some very nice Postal History items to go alongside. Londonbus1

Also in the bundle of Israel material I picked up a few months back were some revenues. I will show some of what I found in the hope of getting some further information as I have no reference material and it is an area I will not be collecting. There are more in glassines, both mint and used. Hi darrenk, Nice lot of revenues, thanks for showing them. All of the multi-coloured types are from the 2nd Revenue issue of 1952-60. On Israel and Stag watermarked paper. For use on bills and receipts. Printed in sheets of 100. The others (single colour) are from the 1st series of 1948. These can be found on both watermarked and unwatermarked paper and each value has a number of perforation types. So a full set is long and tough !!! If you have any more, please post them, thanks.
