Greetings all, and Happy New Year! I just received these in the post last week. I do like to collect used stamps, and finding them from New Republic is challenging to say the least.

sudbury12000 thanks for sharing your New Republic stamps. The short-lived Boer republic of New Republic was proclaimed in 1884 and existed until uniting with the Transvaal in July 1888. The stamps were issued on either blue granite paper or on yellow paper as per your examples. Some issues were also embossed. The actual date of each printing was embedded into the design prior to February to 1887 as seen on your 1 shilling example. About 16 or so different denominations of these stamps were issued, ranging in value from 1d to 30 shillings resulting in Stanley Gibbons assigning 95 major catalogue numbers. Given that these stamps were not valid outside of New Republic it is likely that the higher denominations were possibly produced for the collector market.
Forgeries of all values are known. Genuine stamps can be identified by the full stop after the A in AFRIKA, and by the split top horizontal line of the first E in REPUBLIEK which would indicate that both your stamps are probably genuine.

I would expect lots of forgeries for these early issues.

I was also concerned about the authenticity of these stamps, but as said by Clive, these seemed to be legit. These stamps were picked up for about $20USD. There are very few that are affordable, for me at least!
