One more bundle of forgeries to show. These are all on very white, fairly thick gummed paper. Ryan

Here's a forgery I came across recently while sorting a pile of stamps from Ecuador. This 8 reales stamp is perhaps better called a bogus issue rather than a forgery - there was never an 8 reales stamp issued so there's nothing being forged here, I guess. Danged ugly too, a faint colour that's real difficult to figure out when you're looking at it in real life. I actually scanned the thing upside down because I couldn't see which way was up! Ryan

forgeries-facsimiles-reproductions-blackprintsAn ebay auction that ended recently posted the following caveat in the description of the above item: "For sale. This 1840 Penny Black Facsimile Set of 4 Stamps, in mint nh condition
Back of stamps reads "Reproduction Penny Black" and hence cannot be sold as the real item. "
"IN PERFECT FRESH POST OFFICE CONDITION"
I found the part about being "IN PERFECT FRESH POST OFFICE CONDITION" especially amusing!!! It remind me of an off hand comment a guy I dated eons ago was fond of saying. It was something about an item being an "authentic genuine imitation simulated Indian princess". Sounds like the same nonsense double talk to me.....LOL!!!!!

[/quote] This very nice reproduction was a Royal Mail 'special' for StampShow 2000 at Earl's Court in London. A limited edition. The block of 4 came in a presentation pack which sells for about $40+ these days. How much was this one up for sale for ?

just found this forgery while sorting some stamps for the upcoming live auction. British North Borneo 1887 perf 11.5 The real thing is perf 14. Of course, my other clue was the word 'forgerie' written on the back in pencil.

Nice Forgery B (Varro Tyler -"Focus on Forgeries -2000).
Another obvious sign is the lack of definition of the Lion's midsection.

Shown in an earlier post [page 1] was a Blackprint sheet of the 1953 GB QEII Coronation set. The picture was not good. I have just found a single set with both Designer and printer's Imprints and hope they give a clearer view of the fine Harrison printing of this item.
The sheet of 12 [3 sets] was printed on high quality thick paper without gum and with underprint. The sheet was inserted as a free gift in the 1954 [Dec 1953] copy of the Penrose Annual.
Given the fine quality of printing and the scarcity, this must be near the top of the list for collectors of such items.

Reproduction of the QV £5 stamp which some dealers are selling for large sums of cash [as a repro]. I have no idea from whence it came. Can also be found with forged cancels.

Wow, over a year goes by and no additions to this thread.....time to catch up a bit. The 2 items below formed part of a free gift given to delegates at the 1st Cinderella Congress held in London last September. We were given other gifts too and I will post others from time to time.

Finally [for now], two reprints of GB unaccepted designs for an airmail issue, that are actually cut-outs from a 1984 Philatelic Exhibition Souvenir sheet. A practice I abhor !! About a year ago, an eBay seller listed what were claimed to be 'colour separation' proofs. All were identical to the colour separations shown on this (cropped down) 1964 National Stamp Exhibition souvenir sheet. It was my belief that someone had cut one of these down and passed them on as proofs. Whether I was right or wrong, buying proofs should be accompanied by a certificate, or at least some recognised provenance.

You might get in touch with Peter Elias - he runs the St. Vincent Stamps website, is (or was) the St. Vincent study group leader for both the British West Indies Study Circle and the British Caribbean Philatelic Study Group, etc etc. His e-mail address is info at stvincentstamps dot com. Ryan

EGYPT, 1884. Imperf forgeries of the 1884 Postage Dues. The original Dues were designed by L. Barkhausen who was the Official designer and lithographer for Printers V. Penasson of Alexandria. I wonder what they would have said about these ?

Reminds me of one of those "aged" Taiwan jobs. He's on eBay selling all kinds of fantasies and replicas.
