Germany's first post office in East Africa was on the island of Lamu, off the coast of what is now Kenya, from 1888-1891. Lamu was in the orbit of Zanzibar. Germany was preparing to stake claims in the area, but the post office was as far as it got at that point.
In the Heligoland-Zanzibar treaty, Germany gave up its claim to the island and nearby coast to Britain in exchange for Heligoland and dibs on what became German East Africa.

greaden, I saw this postal cancellation only in catalogs. (StempelKatalog ed.2009) In Michel ed. 2019 the value is even higher. Thank you.
