Children´s Day,issued March 1st,1960.(this one is cliché 4)
Print: 40.000 Exists imperforated and part-perforated.
It is my absolute favourite Nepal stamp. Printed in sheets of 4,composed by 4 different clichés,what differ from each other in many details and are easy to distinguish.

King´s 40th birthday,issued June 11th,1960.
On the same day the stamp was issued overprinted as service stamp. It was withdrawn on the very same day,because the black overprint was believed to bring a bad fate to the king. For more than twenty years this service stamp was a rather costly stamp,with catalogue-value of a few hundred bucks. In 1983 it was again on sale in Katmandu.Some clever people offered them well below the high catalogue-prices, until it became widely known,that they were re-issued. As king Mahendra was long dead by then,- he died in 1972 -,the black overprint no longer could do any harm. From 1985 onwards,all service stamps could be used as ordinary postage stamps.

The inscription on the 40 Paisa stamp "MANSALU" is incorrect.The name of the mountain is "MANASLU"

10th anniversary of nepalese democracy,issued Feb.18th,1961. Stamp shows King Tribhuvana (1906-1955).
Democracy in Nepal was always obstructed by the royals and their supporters. A functioning democracy was achieved only in 2006,when the king was disempowered and the maoist communist party effectively became the major political force in Nepal.

Children´s Day,issued March 1st,1961. Print: 16.000 in sheets of 16 This is the last "homemade" stamps,printed by the "Gurkha Patra Press" in Katmandu.
It shows Prince Gyanendra,then aged 14,hand-cancelling stamps. Gyanendra,as an infant of 2,was made king by the Ranas,when King Tribhuvana and other members of the royal family fled to India in 1949.When Tribhuvana,with the help of India,returned
back to Nepal the following year,Gyanendra was replaced and became known again as Prince Gyanendra. In 2001,when the King and the cown prince,as well as other members of the royal family were killed, Gyanendra again ascended the throne.
The stamp exists imperforated.

Service stamps,issued in Oct.1961 (5 P.),Jan.62,1962 (1 & 2 P.). These overprints on definitives were issued well before the defintives were issued as such. Valid till Feb.1st,1962 and again from Feb.24th,1984.Used also as normal stamps from 1985 onwards. Cancelled stamps with dates prior to Feb.2nd,1962 are rare.
