Here is an 1863 Dresden, Deutschland (Sachsen)–Siyalkot mourning cover (ex-Knapp/Haub) franked with Sachsen 1856 10 Neugroschen Johann Nepomuk Maria Joseph Anton Xaver Vincenz Aloys Luis de Gonzaga Franz de Paula Stanislaus Bernhard Paul Felix Damasus (1801–1873) bright cyan imperf definitive (Mi 13a), with two strikes of Dresden Neust. cds dt. Jul 8,1863, one used as cancel.
The cover was marked Pf7 in manuscript in blue ink, which was the maximum transit charge leviable at the rate of ⅓ Silberpfennig per 16.67gm (1 Postlot/Loth) per 1.6093km (1 mile) following Article XIII of Österrich–Preußen Postal Treaty 1850 dt. Apr 6,1850 that formed the Deutsch-Österreichischer Postverein, signed between Anton Langer, Generalpostmeister, Österreich and Gottlieb Heinrich Schmückert, Generalpostmeister, Preußen and Carl Adolph Metzner, Oberpostrath/Senior Advisor to the Post Office Department, Preußen.
Out of the 10 Ngr. postage, 7 Ngr. was credited to France as Fr. territotial and packet postage and 3 Ngr. was retained by the Deutsch-Österreichischer Postverein of which Sachsen was a member, following the Sachsen–France Postal Treaty 1858, signed on Dec 3,1858 between Bruno von Schimpff (1807–1871), Oberpostdirektor in Sachsen and Alexandre Florian Joseph (1810–1868), Sécretaire, Départment des Affaires Etrangères, France.
The cover was carried by Thurn und Taxis Post from Dresden to Forbach. It was then carried in Fr. TPO as indicated by the Tour-T. Forbach Amb. B (Tour-et-Taxis i.e. Thurn und Taxis Forbach Ambulant B) TPO transit mark dt. Jul 9,1863, then routed via Marseille where it got the P.D. (Payé à Destination) handstamp in red and the Marseille (Départment No.12) cds dt. Jul 11,1863. It has Mumbai cds dt. Aug 10,1863 and Siyalkot cds dt. Aug 19,1863.
This cover was in Lot 239 of Altdeutsche Staaten Die Sammlung Erivan Haub Sale 380 of Heinrich Köhler Auktionshaus GmbH u. Co. KG, Wiesbaden, Deutschland, on Mar 25,2023, which was sold at €4638. 🤑
