In 1997, Correios de Angola issued these 3 stamps that show the image of an old steam locomotive, one Garrat and one GE diesel-electric locomotive: The Benguela-CFB Railway is the most important railway in Angola that crosses the country from the Atlantic coast (port of Lobito) to the DRC-Congo border (Luau) with 1,679 km of line and more than 100 years of history. Its construction began on March 1, 1903 and was completed on February 2, 1929. On June 10, 1931, the first shipment of copper from Katanga arrived at the port of Lobito. For around 30 years, CFB operations were interrupted due to the civil war in Angola (since 1975) and reopened in 2013. Initially the locomotives were steam powered, using firewood (the CFB operated the largest private eucalyptus plantation in the world). Later they began to be replaced by GE diesel-electric locomotives.

In 1970, on the occasion of the Centenary of the Postal Stamp in Angola, this stamp was issued with the image of a Beyer-Garratt locomotive, on which the inscription "CFB" (Caminhos de Ferro de Benguela) can be seen. It should be noted that in the upper right corner a "Crown" stamp of 25 kings is reproduced, issued in 1870

After the declaration of Angola as an independent country from Portugal (on November 11, 1975), some stamps were put into circulation with an overhead “Republica Popular” and with a bar over “Republica Portuguesa”. In 1980, 10 years after the issuance commemorating the centenary of the stamp in Angola with a stamp with the image of a Garrat locomotive, from the CFB line, this stamp was put into circulation with the overhead "REPÚBLICA POPULAR" and a bar, on the top line , hiding "REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA ", as can be seen in the image

TRAINS IN ANGOLA - A city that was born in the shadow of the CFB Railway
Some notes on the history of the creation of the city of HUAMBO - a city that was born with Trains! The English company “Pauling & Co.” had been hired to build the CFB railway. . In 1911 the section up to Km 360 was opened for exploration and that same year Postal Service began on passenger trains (known as “Comboio Mala”). When the railway reached the central plateau, the location known as Forte do Huambo was chosen to install the CFB railway center In 1912 the railway reached Km 426. At the camp and shipyard, which was located in the area, the English company “Pauling & Co.” started receiving correspondence addressed to “PAULING TOWN – ANGOLA” When the new Governor General of Angola, General Norton de Matos, became aware of this fact, he announced the following: “ Upon my arrival in Angola I learned that Huambo had been given the name “PAULING TOWN” and that several letters were sent from England to “PAULING TOWN – ANGOLA””
Now the Benguela railway is reaching Huambo and before its inauguration, it is necessary to clearly mark our dominance in that region” Thus, he ordered the creation of a new city located close to a place where there was a small fort (already marked on the CFB line plan, drawn as “Fortaleza do Huambo”) and on August 8, 1912, by legislative means, the City of Huambo was created In 1962, the Fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the city of Huambo was celebrated and a stamp was issued with the figure of the statue of General Norton de Matos, erected in the city square [Note - Before Angola's independence, CFB Central Workshops, located in Huambo-Nova Lisboa, were the largest railway workshops on the entire African continent]

CFM - Caminho de Ferro de Moçâmedes
CFM is the railway line, which crosses the south of Angola from West to East over 756 km, connecting the port of Moçâmedes to the Kassinga iron mines area. Angola was the world's third largest producer of iron ore and in 1973 the CFM transported 6,000,000 tons of iron ore to the port of Moçâmedes
On June 15, 1970, Moçâmedes Railway Day was celebrated. Although no specific stamp was issued, one cover was issued containing a block of Angola map stamp (1955 stamp - $05) and dated postmark ( Dia do Caminho de Ferro de Moçâmedes/15-6-970) on which an image of the 1st locomotives is reproduced (identical to the CFB #01 locomotive - see below stamp)
