I spent most of today identifying and cataloging my China and Republic of China stamps. These nine are all that remain to be identified but I need your assistance. Perhaps I was at it too long today but I seemed unable (using my 2009 Scott catalog) to match overprints with issuances on the first eight or the value and color on the ninth. About all I could glean from Google image searches was that the first two stamps shown are likely postal savings stamps with different provencial overprints. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

You think things are going awry? It seems TSF has lost an entire page of Canadian Cinderellas, all my posts are missing?

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

Other than finding references to the postal savings stamps on other forums, I don't know of any good source online for information. Michael Rogers lists a printed catalogue in their literature section. The only thing close that I've found online is this rather limited attempt, from a seller of Chinese revenue stamps. www.chinarevenuestamps.com/23.htmlRyan

LB1 moved that thread under Jacks approval and I un-done the Canadian Cinderella sub-forum so I'm not certain where they would have gone missing. They are now under Cinderella's, local posts and Ephemera. There is to be no independent country cindy sub-forums- at least for the time being.

Thanks Jeff, as long as they are still around somewhere, when Jack returns he may be able to sort.
Thanks for letting me know, I thought I was going bonkers.

Thanks, Rod! I should have been able to figure those out on my own (the light blue $5000 damaged stamp is actually Scott 903). Were it not for the search function of the digital 2009 catalogs, it would have taken me weeks to get everything done.

Can anyone help me identify this vexing China stamp? I even took this to work so my Chinese colleague could help me translate the overprinting. He said the top reads, roughly, "good only in Taiwan" and the bottom reads "5 cents". The 5 cents on 5 cents didn't make a lot of sense to me. The closest I can get in Scott's is Taiwan #15, 5s on 5c dl reg org on China Issues and Types of 1940-1946, design A48 - Liao Chung-kai. But the bottom right character looks wrong based on the picture in the catalog. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You have it correct, Jen (although havn't checked scott yet) Stanley Gibbons 1946 SG15 (1946) T60 05s on 05c martyr [1m0] orange 5c on 5c is a common habit with the Chinese Opts. Just confims the value on an overprinted stamp. The reason the picture in the catalogue differs, it is example of the Chinese text for 2s (2 sen--2c), ergo, different value opts will have different characters below.

Boy do I feel stupid. But it makes perfect sense now. In addition to translating the stamp for me, me coworker also gave me a little lesson on how in "olden" times you would read from right to left. And he did point out that the five is in the right hand corner and it makes sense that it would change with the stamp denomination. I also got a history lesson on the Chinese civil war. So turned out good all around. I think trying to figure out all these China stamps have turned my brain to mush.

"Boy do I feel stupid." Feeling stupid, means you are asking questions, which means you will progress. I once asked about a "Postage Due" from Italy because it had Due on it, turned out to be the value, it must have been bad because I still remember it Hahahaha Feeling stupid also gives you empathy for the next person who asks a clanger Feeling stupid is therefore embraced on TSF BTW. Studying Chinese stamps is a slow process, as an advert once said about an Australian Fish Paste " A little bit goes a long way" Best to work with your Chinese stamps, in little chunks or bites.
