1948 Airmail from Plenty Sask to NZ. That won't be a very common postmark. The population of the town itself was only 164 from the 2016 census (and that was a 25% increase over the previous census). Yes, rural populations might have been bigger back in those days before so many people moved to the cities but not by a whole lot. Ryan

This goes back a few years... There was an article in the paper (Toronto Star/Globe And Mail?) about having your Christmas cards sent from Christmas Island, Nova Scotia. So, I had to send one to myself as well. They probably still do it, but I never sent any back to them for mailing.

The entire series (Scott Nos. 401-405) designed by Ernst Roch is for me, a modern classic with its simple, sleek graphics design. It is large blocks like this that make me think how PopArt might have been influenced... Queen Elizabeth II (1962) 20 x 5¢ Scott No. 405q - Winnipeg Tagging

That pane of 20 stamps which you show has a bit of a history to it. Those were originally sold as Cello Paqs (or Cello Paks, or Cello-Packs, or whatever it was - black cat is on my arm as I type & the catalogue is not at hand right now). A number of Canadian definitive & Christmas issues were sold in small panes wrapped in a cellophane packet ("for pocket or purse" - imagine how crumpled your stamps would get if you carried them in your pocket...). The 5 cent stamps were sold in panes of 20 so the total price would be $1, whereas 4 cent stamps came in a pane of 25 to also sell for $1. 2 cent & 3 cent issues exist as well - those were sold with two panes in a packet. Here's an image of the 5 cent Cameo in its Cello Paq, nabbed from an eBay listing. Ryan

This one got my attention. Cross fertilization between Canada and Geneva, sent 7 July 1942. The sender made their feelings clear. At a time when five cents got a Canadian letter anywhere, surface rate (right?), they paid thirty cents for trans-Atlantic air mail. The reverse shows a forwarding cancel through Portugal; Pan Am clipper to Lisbon, I assume. No cancels to show how it was handled after that. No doubt it went on the train; surely Ottawa wasn't going to refund the Vichy post office for air mail fees. Was air mail even operating across France in mid-1942?
There is no enclosure. No forwarding instructions outside; the sender had no specific clues to share. It looks to be yet another hopeful letter, almost certainly looking for someone missing. They wanted to know.

My comments , not definitive answers but thoughts:
Portugal & Switzerland were both Neutral , so presumably mail connections across France still pertained. There is a censor label on the right as one would expect. Canadian I assume ?
The magenta handstamp COUPON REPONSE indicates the sender had included a pre paid international reply coupon , that would have had a return address

Right about the Canadian censor label. They vary--and I'm no expert--but could be exceptionally discrete looking.
I get the point about neutral-to-neutral air traffic. And I recall from the Swedish experience there was some air traffic for diplomatic pouches between neutrals and hostiles, Stockholm-London, Stockholm-Berlin. Those were flown with converted warplanes (the UK used Mosquitos), often escorted. And France maintained air mail to its African colonies through 1943. It seems amazing; would you volunteer to fly sacks of ordinary mail through contested skies? Pilots love to go on about the empty skies, the isolated vastness, but I don't know.

This morning's reading found me perusing older issues of The Stamp Forum Newsletter and I came across this article, "Discovering a Variety and Getting it Listed in a Catalogue" in Volume 1, Issue 1: October-November 2016. With only one copy of the stamp from the Heritage Artifacts series in my own collection, I was quickly able to identify I did not have one of the variants listed, but did enjoy the read nonetheless...

Canada Post put out one beauty of a set for the Chinese New Year in January 2021. They combined the 12 years worth of issues into one souvenir sheet, one booklet and one uncut press sheet of 12 individual souvenir sheets. I was never really all that interested in the series, so didn't bother with them, But this 12-in-one issue is really nice.
Here is the souvenir sheet, of which only 50,000 were printed.
250,000 booklets were printed...
Only 8,000 of these uncut press sheets were printed. Note the foot long (12 inch / 30 cm) ruler on the side.
I'll have to see about getting this framed. I wanted to buy the framed press sheet from Canada Post, but it looked like they cut off the printer data on the left. So I bought this one instead and will look at getting it framed later.

Canada, Unitrade number 1814i, Issued October 12, 1999. as part of the Millenium Issue.
The Souvenir Sheet depicts "The Dove of Peace on a Branch".
This Sheet is a Tour de Force of the engravers Art executed by one of Canadas' finest Graphic Artists: Jorge Peral, Wildlife and Portrait photographer, Designer and Master Engraver. You've seen his work many times on the oversize High Value definitives showing Moose, Bears etc. and the $2 QEII Diamond Jubilee of 2012.

Contemporary forgeries are not a common thing among Canadian stamps. I have never seen these 1975 Olympic Sculptures jumbo size before. They have been cancelled at a Hamilton, ON post office. Just another conversation piece.

I just saw this in my Definitively Stamps FB feed. I still love Stan Rogers' music and have a signed copy of his live album, Between the Breaks...Live. I saw him perform with his brother Garnet live at Chicagofest in 1979. Both of them came and sat at our table for a brief moment and signed the very same album I mention above. I was only 15 years old at the time but, to this day, I credit Stan Rogers with my love of folk and roots music. Such a loss! A commemorative stamp is well deserved. Folk musician Stan Rogers honored on Canadian stamp

another question from someone who does not collect Canada. I would guess these are examples of pr-cancels, but what does the 700 signify? (and yes I know stamp on left has a tear on top edge) thanks

Not a field I focus on but remembering an old precancel catalogue being in a job lot I bought once Stan. Yours are from Montreal.

In this case…the 0700 is for Montreal I think there would be three types of pre cancel. 1. The pre cancel without any reference to place 2. pre cancel with place name 3. Pre cancel with place number
This based on my observations so I could be in error.

In my quest to get a few additions to my collection, I ended up with a lot more. I finally found the Quarterly Pack #3 for July-September 2017. It includes the 5th instalment of 150 Years of Canadian Photography and Birds-2 that I wanted. It also has a bunch of others, including this...
The Ultimate 6 legends of hockey souvenir sheet and die-cut singles. You'll also note the package on the right - it holds six $1.80 card-stamps of the 6 players. There's a chance one of them is a signed card! I recall years ago when collecting hockey and baseball card packs, it is best to leave packs closed, for investment purposes! Is there a signed card inside? I wonder if there are any stats to show just how many signed cards have been found! There's possibly a Bobby Orr (CV: $150) or a Mario Lemieux (CV: $250) signed card inside. CV's from the 2020 Unitrade catalogue.
I'll more than likely cave-in at some point and open up the pack. Here's hoping when I do that there's a signed card inside! I better make up a page or two for these stamps too, just in case. I just have 2 left from Great Canadian Goalies issue from 2015. I should have kept them instead of using them as postage for mailing out goodies all over!
I was going to start on some foreign stamps from around the world this morning, but thought that since I have so many quarterly packs, I'd start with that instead. I'll be a while yet sorting them all out, making pages and mounting them!
