The horizontal or vertical format I believe refers to the orientation of the picture you provide. Such as a group photo would probably be in horizontal (landscape) format but a portrait ( single subject) would be in a vertical format. Not sure if the new ones have changed but I think pretty much all of the previous ones were either available as panes of 21 or 40 or both. Could question about mint or used. With such small quantities I think we'll probably have to wait and see. My guess would be used would be harder to find as with most modern issues, how many recipients would think to save them from the trash but at the same time (for those issues that had privately produced images) how many of the leftover mint examples would ever make it onto the market. If someone ordered 200 copies for wedding invites and ended up with a pane or two leftover, would those ever make it into the collectible marketplace or would they just get used up on hydro and cable bills? For the ones with images supplied by Canada Post I think there is a good chance you'll find mint panes easier to get as they were tucked away in collectors albums, and as those albums eventually make it back onto the market.

Frog, if you'd really like a challenge as far as finding modern postally used Canadian issues and keeping with the Picture Postage theme, try finding even one copy of #1991C or #1991D, the Alaska Cruise issue. I haven't actually gone looking for a copy but I have yet to see one in a collection. These were issued July19, 2003 in panes of 10 (5 of each design). They were not announced prior to release. They were not included in the Annual Collection. There were no Official First Day Covers. There were only 50 000 panes produced. There were only 10 000 of those available to the public with the remaining 40 000 being delivered to the cruise ship lines to offer to the guests. And of those 40 000 that were set aside for the cruise guests no one knows how many of those were ever sold. There is a possibility that 35 000 of them are sitting in drawers somewhere. No way of knowing how popular they were.
The funny thing is, even with those details about the issue and the unknowns, the catalog value for either a mint or used single is $10.00.

Of interest only one stamp on sheet is vertical format meaning there were only 50,000 of these printed. If all you students would open your unitrade catalog to first page of Canada look at printing numbers for #1.I rest my case.

Just an update.I started about three months ago re-mounting modern Canada and today I finished up to 2011.I am so proud of myself I had to share. This project involved forty years of stamps and I went through over 500 sheets of cardstock with corresponding page protectors.I have only a pile of used to add to these pages now and see the end in sight.WHEW it was a long road but I will never have to do this again. Now I can get moving on the other projects. My list includes catching up on additions I have bought in last few months that mostly are going to involve re-doing small queens. Also adding the cindys to where they go,more work on my admirals, and then my new pursuit of SP$M.I cannot believe how many hours and how many mounts I have gone through.THANKS to all of you for the giving me this forum to relax and walk away once in awhile, I am mostly still sane.(debatable I know)

Does anyone know when new Unitrade is released?? and Do you have good source(price) where it is available???I have decided to forgo buying new supplements seems a waste as within five years I throw them out in favor of quadrille pages.I would rather buy new unitrade every two or three years for same buck.I see it's like new car this years model is almost twice what used last year model is. www.canadapost.ca/shop/stamp-collecting/accessories/tools-and-reference/p-341995.jsf?execution=e1s1I believe postage is included, the time I ordered from Canada Post shipping was included.

O.K. so it decided to rain and I knew I had to move pages album to album (again). My cindys seem to keep expanding my pages. My solution today was a very simple fix.I added a binder from 1942-1951.It relieved the first binder of about thirty pages and I realized the number of war related cindys would easily take up the slack now created with the new binder.Unfortunately I also found these pages include numerous officials both perforated and overprinted(ohms) that need re-mounting and organizing.I am going to need more patience than I have right now. Some how in this mix is also the semi-airs and OA's . Any volunteers that want a challenge are more than welcome to come play.I still want to keep going on my wildlife seals and other cindys so this bit is put aside again.

Could be something like that kind of glossy type paper.was worth the gamble it's the only way to find the odd.I'm going to try the usual soaking and magnifying things before I give up though.

Not sure if it is just the scan but the printing looks a little crude for something issued by the post office dept. I wonder if it is an illustration from a book or some other kind of facsimile/forgery. Any wrappers, postal bands or other stationary I have seen from that period is similar quality to the stamps that were issued.

Going to put it in the unknown /cindy page.I managed to soak it off its page remnant and scope it and still unsure the what or why. Was mounted next to a three cent large queen in old collection.I saw it on original listing and took a chance it was something interesting.Maybe next owner will look at it further, it is saved for posterity and that's the best a collector can do.

I'll say one thing if this was out of a stamp album it's great printing. Under magnification the shading lines are spot on in and around face. Also the design at top is very intricate. As an obvious older item not sure how printing could be so fine.

I'm overdue for ten step program.I can't locate things I saw right on top of table last week.I get started then get sidetracked looking for stuff I know is here somewhere.Getting old definitely has it's drawbacks. That last revenue lot really made a bit of a mess here.Anyone looking for something to do?? Maybe if I don't buy anything for a few months I can catch up with it all?? Wish Sir Rod would move next door I'm sure he would motivate me to organization.Maybe the thing to do is empty the stamp room and put it back in one thing at a time? Anyone else face this problem? Can't believe what a mess I have right now.

Can't believe what a mess I have right now. I am no where near what you say I am Froggie, I have messes, but they are in boxes, messes are part of being a WW collector. A few Tips, that may assist you. 1. ALWAYS have a clean, wide open desk, free from stamps. A clear desk, a clear mind. 2. Stop buying stamps, until you have cleared or you feel you have, what you have, under control. 3. Have a shoebox with envelopes, (I have large A4 one) with each envelope, each country name. Pop the never ending odd stamps into it's country. Each day you go stamping, pluck out an envelope and work on that for the day, clear the desk after work. (Out of sight, out of mind) Shoebox filing system (circa $15) If you work on a particular country / theme, mount or organise stamps for your time spent, any leftover stamps, put 'em in a hagner at the back of your album, ready for the next time you work on that area. With my boxes in the attic, I glue a sheet of scrap paper to the top flap, and jot down what's inside, roughly, saves fossicking around later. Hope that helps.

I believe my biggest mess is the twenty or so open packs of showgard in various lengths and pieces scattered everywhere.I am going to try to build a better file system for these.I need to change my habits.I have a large file type box with front cut out that I try to keep mounts in ascending order.I won two large lots of common sizes that never made it to the file just working out of a large pile now.I use a shoebox to put new arrivals in but last couple lots involved many stock sheets and old album pages which didn't fit in.It just added to the clutter. My mission today has been in the hunt for a packed stocksheet that has the postal scripts/notes on it.Doen't seem like it should be hard to find but has not appeared.

"I use a shoebox to put new arrivals in but last couple lots involved many stock sheets and old album pages"
I get around this one, by using the large orange-brown manila envelopes that take whole album pages. Only a few cents, and you can slip many whole pages in, before you work on them, pencil in the country (or thematic) on the cover. I have currently 22 of those in a box near my desk.
Use a dummy A4 sheet on top of the pages as you slip them in, to prevent stamps getting caught, or pages being creased. Not too many envelopes on top of each other, keep it light, esp in humidity, the stamps may adhere to the page.

Here are some ideas for your showguards /covers / pages (even a nut and bolt drwaer compedium ) I usually shop at "Red Dot" stores for the cheap Chinese Copies. You'll find your collecting enjoyment increases with organisation.

Good one Rod.I have an idea in my head to construct a unit that will help. Now to get the motivation is another story.I have some older meter strips that I will preserve.Any suggestions where or how to file them?? I think I would like to keep them together as opposed to filing separate by year.I'm leaning toward starting another binder to include cut squares and meters, along with my other postage paid receipts, etc.I'll be looking for a bigger room soon if I keep adding binders. Maybe the wife will let me take over the rest of my music room and get rid of the day bed there, who needs to sleep anyway? On the other hand if I do that I can't buy any more of my music toys. This is when I miss my big house that my step daugther and her family are using.

Meter Strips? Good luck with those I have mine in envelopes in an old McCains chip carton, along with US cut squares, Australian Pre stamped envelopes cut squares, and worldwide meter strips. I'll never get to them, they are a "bridge too far" Apparently, even Methusala didn't get to his meter strips before he died.

......further There is one method where you can adopt with meter strips, and high volume ephemera.
Just lay all your strips on the Scanner platen, and bulk scan, that way you have the opportunity to study, and review them anytime, without taking them out of your storage box, where they shall no doubt, outlive us all, (and secretly multiply).
The famous US collector Green, had two people full time, mounting his stamp collection in the 1930's, as he toured the world, buying, as I recall, and even he failed to get 'em all.

I have made some steady progress and am just about done mounting and filing cindys to proper years. By tomorrow night it WILL be conquered. The few meter strips I own are in their home now. These are mostly early twenties to 1940 ish.I still haven't located the missing stock page and there is a bit of revenues that will stare at me for awhile yet,but over all getting there. If the P.O. co-operates another collection is arriving soon that I want to pick over. There will be some more give-aways I'm sure.If anyone is looking for something within reason say the word it's probably here somewhere and I'll be glad to share.
