Interesting, notice change in crowns.Ryan your the the guy that probably knows about these. My thinking is official government use by offices indicated. The ocean mail service is a question mark,as is the plain yellow seal.Any one

Most are "St Edwards" Crowns, the Public Works looks like the "Tudor Crown" which would date it between 1902-1953
Crowns can be seen in Scott Great Britain watermarks.

The "ocean Mail Service" is a curly one An "Ocean Mail Service " was disbanded in 1887, but your square looks more modern ? Arrangements are made with Hugh Allan, a Montréal financier and shipowner, for his steamers to transport mail between Europe and Canada. Mail clerks accompany the mails and sort the letters on board. Six marine mail clerks are appointed on a recommendation from the Postmaster General. In 1887, correspondence sorting by marine mail officers aboard mail steamers between the Province of Canada and the United Kingdom is discontinued and the ocean mail service component of the Post Office is disbanded. Thereafter, mail is prepared before it goes aboard ship. www.historymuseum.ca/cmc/exhibitions/cpm/chrono/chs1841e.shtml

and thus the question on that.thanks Rod, why the change in crowns ? any thought what the yellow seal may be? Were all public works using this method of mail or was this a local? I assume by signing it the official noted it's official use?

I assume by signing it the official noted it's official use? wiki From 1902 to 1953 a stylised heraldic "Tudor Crown" was widely used by the British government and its agencies in numerous official contexts to represent governmental authority. Yellow seal: too far away, like appraising a diamond from 12 feet, articles have to be presented clear and up close.

The Public Works, I would suggest, has nothing to do with Mail. It may be a seal on an official document, that was signed off by the signatory, using his /her official seal. Only a guess. That may apply to other seals you have there.
The Ocean Mail square looks like mail / stationery, and has a whiff of "valuable"

So keeping busy and Van Dam in hand I worked on these.Never realized three different caribou sets.Perfing these is a challenge 1/4 difference, the price of specializing is sometimes your patience.

Nice page indeed Froggie. Specialising has it's own unique rewards, as long as you approach it in biteable chunks, before it becomes tiresome. With your perfs, do you, after establishing 1 perf as given, slide other stamps up to match the perforations? or do you use a guage for every stamp? EZ Perf has offered 10% discount on EZ Perf ($40 less 10%) www.ezstamp.com/I am about to stop procrastinating and buy, I'll do a road test in about a month.

As much as I gripe about it I measure every stamp two sides twice.I make piles on a piece of paper with all possible perfs noted on it and place the piles accordingly by proper noted size. Then I can select the best copy to preserve for me and make a pile to pass on to some noted friends.I tried free download from easy perf.It wasn't easy but then I'm not a tech head.Seemed to add scanning to the process which means handling stamps another couple times too.I did purchase a couple newer gauges that show increments previously not found on early ones.

Nice work on the caribous Frog! I hadn't realized there is three different perfs available either.
When I am measuring perfs I tend to stick with the gauge. I find using the gauge seems to get easier with practice. Often it takes me a while to 'warm up' to measuring before I can get up to a proficient speed. When I am sorting through a large batch it seems to get easier and quicker as I go. I too use the piece(s) of paper system to pile the stamps once they have been measured.

Methinks I owe you some postage..... And thanks to the Marker Monkey, you should take more holidays.... Woodbine RPO ? Any ideas? Accompanying Documentation Etiquette d'expedition.

Thanks Ryan. Methinks I owe you some postage..... And thanks to the Marker Monkey, you should take more holidays.... Woodbine RPO ? Any ideas? No, you definitely don't owe me any postage - you've already overpaid once, no need to do it again. ha ha I have good relations with my post office, they'll handstamp my stuff upon request. I mentioned yesterday that it was to keep the Marker Monkey at bay, they thought that was a funny reference. Woodbine Retail Post Office, my local post office. A nice brisk walk to and fro, 2.9 km there and back. I stocked up on whales and bears when I was there so I'd have postage on hand for future packages. Ryan

I manage to get "pointing finger" aux labels in the same manner. BTW the "flip over" worked, our postamaster had said he was about to just hand it over, when he saw the label, and I had to sign a digital machine receipt.

Ryan: Received your stamps today... Many Thanks, another Beeeeyootiful Whale engraved by M. Peral. I am organising a reciprocation, my Postmaster does not keep Minisheets, so you will have to endure definitives, however, you shall be the very first to receive the Rod Airmail Etiquette, 1 of a print run of only 42 reserved for all TSF members I trade with.

I had a look at the Wikipedia page for the Constellation, and found these two remarkable facts. Can you imagine sitting for 23+ hours in an airplane? Cabin fever! And that does give quite the reference to the length of Orville Wright's first flight. Ryan

Admin's "Freebie" Mounted Superman miniature sheet. I didn't have a suitable sized mount, and this is best I could do at the moment. I emailed Willam Steiner, to purchase Canada 2012 and 2013, and he sent me the pages FREE of charge, what a fabulous hobby / people !
