Yep, 227 new stamps from Belgium. That bring me up in 1714 different Belgium stamps (1849-1970) Still missing 714 stamps! I *really* need to start cataloging my Davo album, 3 stock books, 2 loose leaf books and about 50 loose pages of Belgian stamps so I can see if we can help each other on this one tobben63!

That would be great cjopreyI have tonight started to arrange another swap with a collector from Belgium. I think he has as a start close to 200 Belgian stamps for me. But there is stil a lot to exchange

I did the research and examined my options and decided that for assembling and maintaining a wantlist / inventory that Colnect really is an excellent option. The ability to export the data and keep only the columns you prefer sold me. The “compare varieties” option is MAJOR helpful and much easier than flipping back and forth through a catalog. Also the amount of data is astounding. I really think they have something. And just “clicking” is so much faster than typing numbers. I’m a trained touch typist, but I’ve never had good speeds for numeric data entry - I tend to have the most typos entering numbers.
While they have not been licensed to use Scott numbers, their SN numbers are thinly veiled Scott’s. I needed the Scott numbers so that if, in the future, I can enter values
But, just in case they pull a “photobucket” stunt and try to hold my data captive, I will definitely export my data to Google spreadsheets on a regular basis.
If anyone would like to “friend” me on Colnect, I’d be delighted. I’m philatelia there, too.
An unexpected bonus - instead of browsing and shopping, entering all this data will be good for my stamp budget! Haha!

Thanks tobben63 and philatelia for advocating for Colnect, I have to admit I am getting curious. Am already a member, non active (because I do not have time right now) but it looks good for people who use it - As for inventory, all my stamps are on my specialized software and do not intend to use Colnect for that. Friended you on Colnect as well Theresa ( philatelia) - hope it works for you! I also friended René ( renden ), Torbjørn ( tobben63 ) and Tom ( jpotx113 ) on there a while back - so we're in good company! I've also got a backlog of a bunch of Cinderellas and some stamp varieties I need to add to their database... Really should get on with that... Did add a missing Dubai stamp a while back.

I’m hiding in the garage with the dogs (warm and has rugs!) - away from the construction crews - and I’m puttering on Colnect using my iPad. I’m working on my Canada wishlist and playing around with different formats. Now isn’t this sweet? On Colnect I can grab a quick pic of my wants and rather than messing with exporting, I just took a screenshot ... so here is a small part of my recent Canada wants generated super fast in a format that anyone can understand no matter what catalog they use! No long lists of numbers, just pictures! Love this! And, yeah, my recent Canada collection needs work

So I went to their website to open an account. I gave them my email & waited for a return email. I get it saying my account was deactivated. I didn't have one! I just requested to open one.
Good grief. So much for opening an account at Colnect!

Ha. I realized I had an account at colnect but never used since I had signed up! I may have to rethink using it for trading but still use Stamp Manage for inventorying.

philatelia, tobben63, cjoprey Does anyone know of a video / instructions from browsing the Colnect catalogue? I just cannot seem to figure it out. Let's say I have a stamp from Algeria in my possession. All I know is it is from Algeria and it's a 10f stamp (I'm making this up.) I don't know the year it was issued at all. But I want to identify the stamp. When I go to Colnect, I go to the catalogue, then select Algeria, and then it wants me to pick a year of issue. But I don't have a clue! How can I eventually get it to show the stamps? When I go to Stampworld, by comparison, I can scroll from Algeria #1 to the current issues if I like. Yes, I can filter as well, but at least I can see the stamps. With Colnect I seem to need to know exactly what I'm searching for before it will show me anything. No doubt I'm missing something basic. Can you point me to some proper help? PS - I went through the 'advanced filtering' tutorial but it still wants me to pick 2-9 years in the filter, which just seems odd to me.

Hi madbaker - the trick is this: - Go to Colnect's Algeria page: colnect.com/en/stamps/years/country/3-Algeria- From the "Switch to list" section, choose "Face values" - this switches it from showing the years to allowing you to filter by face value - Now you have two options - you'll see "10 (121)" as a value: - If you click on the "10" it will show you the year list again so you can continue filtering (you can again switch to another list as before) - If you click on the "121" it will show you all the stamps for your current filter selection Whether you selected the value or the count above, the "Switch to list" toolbar will always be available at the top to allow you to continue refining your search, for instance filtering by colour or emission type, etc. The other thing worth noting is that any time you're on a filter list (like "years" or "face values") there will be a final option in the "Switch to list" which is "stamps" - select that to see the list of stamps for the current filter. Please feel free to reach out if you have other questions. Hope that helps!

Oh wow, cjoprey , it's amazing what one more click will do. Especially if it is the correct click. Switch to List is exactly what I was missing. I was just filtering and filtering and filtering. Thanks for this, Mark

Just saw this thread and wanted to pop in and say thank you to all of you who are finding Colnect helpful in your collecting activities. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the catalog, feel free to post them here or send me a private message over at Colnect (my username there is the same as here, DJCMH)
Happy Stamping!

I will at some point register with Colnect and at that time I suppose I will learn more about the benefits of membership. But until that time, I have one particular question I've been wondering about. Are you able to set a variable which determines how many stamps show up on the page? I haven't found anything like that yet, so I am always limited to only 10 stamps on the page, and to see the next 10 I need to click on the next page. I can imagine I will get real tired of that when trying to go through all the 80 yen Japanese stamps, for example (all 4,002 of them, or 401 pages). Ryan

Ryan, I use Colnect frequently and have never found a way of having more stamps appear per page when doing a search. I am forced to use the various search boxes/criteria to find many stamps. A long running definitive series like the machins would probably best be searched by face value. Others who use Colnect more than I do may know more. Perhaps there is a way to have more stamps appear per page but I have not found it.

When you're registered you can select to have up to 250 stamps per page - it will display a small dropdown in front of the "showing 1 of xxx" message where you can pick the page size.

And these work the same if you register as a free member or paying member. 1 -250 items om page Then you can select one of three display modes. Thumbnail view Full detail view And list view

I was aware of the cross reference in Colnect. I have my own custom spreadsheet with far more varieties than colnect. I can quickly filter and sort so have to enter the data in my spreadsheet.
However the subsequent discussion on how to use colnect did give me tips on how to better use the site. Scott is not a 100% subset of SG (Concise).
