1976 Etat Comorien = Comoro State Wiki Since the independence in 1975 Following the 1974 referendums, the Comorian Parliament voted independence on 5 July 1975. The postage stamp stocks were in Moroni on Grande Comore. They were overprinted to strike mentions of the French sovereignty and to add "État comorien" (Comorian State). In 1976 and 1977, under President Ali Soilih, Comoros knew a philatelic issue frenzy : In these two years, the country had issued more stamps than during the years of the Comorian Archipelago (1946-1975). Moreover, a little number of these stamps were about a local subject. Topical philatelists were aimed : space exploration, Winter Olympic Games, etc. During the Federal and Islamic Republic of Comoros, philatelic programs returned to local topics. Sc202 CV :$4.50 400francs Ship to satellite communications.

My stamp is cancelled Dzaoudzi in 1961. That town is on Mayotte, which is no longer part of the Comoro Islands. In a 1975 referendum, Mayotte voted to remain a territory of France, while the other Comoro Islands became an independent nation.

It was the first ever stamp produced by stamp Illustrator, Jean Pheulpin, who, along with Raoul Serres, was a prolific producer of stamp designs and engravings, I see them on Laos, Madagascar etc & etc. A very poor translation....... Jean Pheulpin Pheulpin Jean (born 2 October 1907 in Valentigney - died 8 October 1991 in Paris ) is a writer and illustrator of stamps French. The son of an industrialist Doubs , it follows for four years during the Ecole Boulle in Paris , and it chooses the labor section of the metal. He learned engraving. It accepts commands burning for national museums and book illustrations editions of the company 's Bibliolâtres of France . After World War II , he passes burning stamps from a trial contained the portrait of Bossuet . His first postage stamp was issued in 1949 for Comoros French: it is a stamp airmail representing the suburb of Mutsamudu on the 'island of Anjouan . His first French stamp, designed by Lemagny is issued in 1951 for the inauguration of the Museum of French imagery. Among the French colonies and independent Francophone countries for which Pheulpin designed and engraved stamps, the Laos held a special place in the career of the writer. He engraved a vast majority of Lao stamps issued between 1952 to 1967 , after drawings of Marc Leguay and Chamnan Prisayane . After more than 650 achievements stamps and prints for several philatelic documents, his last serious tone, "Centenary of the Institut Pasteur , "in 1987 for France.

The re-issue of map stamps with overprints by the Comorian state in 1975 after their independence (missing the Anjouan map, unfortunately). Oddly enough, they kept in the series the Mayotte stamp, even though Mayotte chose to stay part of France. So this is a case of a stamp of one country showing a map of foreign territory!

The very last stamps of the Comoro Archipelago as a French territory (YT# 104A-B) in 1974. They have a pretty high CV because only a small number of them was not overprinted "Etat Comorien" after independence.

Another coelacanth-themed issue (YT#PA52, from 1973), even though the fish featured is not a coelacanth:

Originally, each of the four main Comoro Islands had their own postal issues (Grande Comore, Anjouan, Mohéli, and Mayotte). We've seen some of the Grande Comore issues, and here is my one lone issue from Anjouan (YT #15). I do not have anything from Mohéli, unfortunately, and Mayotte has its own stockbook, so we'll visit that later.

The only block issued by the Comoro Archipelago under French administration, in 1973 to honor Pablo Picasso shortly after he passed away. Shown also are the accompanying commemorative issue and the re-use of the stamp with an Etat Comorien overprint.

OK, Xavier, I am a bit late to the party here, but I realize in reading this that it may have been a nod in my direction.... if so, thanks, my friend! I love the classics, and I am especially a sucker for overprints and surcharges. I can't really explain why, but I am irresistibly attracted to them. Anyway, thanks! I have also enjoyed the other classic items posted in this thread, so a nod of acknowledgement to greaden as well. Very nice stuff, indeed. By the way, I do have a couple of stamps from Moheli, so if no one beats me to the punch, I will scan and post those once I am reunited with my collection sometime after 22nd December.
