Cats......just Cats. Not a big fan myself, One moggy, an orange Tabby, (no tail) came out of the wilderness, and adopted the Monks at my temple, so they attached a bell, to preserve our wildlife. One evening, about 25 minutes into meditation, it decided to nest in my lap with accompanying loud purring noises. It was rather surreal.

Hi Rodney I looked in Michel, Gibbons and Minkus but could not find anything. I am surprised that Minkus did not list them. Are you sure that it is 1973? I did see a couple being sold on eBay.es (Spain). Nothing on Mercado Libre Paraguay. I even searched using Google.py (Google Paraguay), Note: Translates to Additional For Postman. Speculating that they might be postage dues? It will be interesting to see if someone knows something. Too bad Antonio doesn't participate any more as he might know more. I tried Jerry B

I tried Jerry B "Additional for postmen" not Postage dues, Non obligatory stamps charity to benefit mailmen originally issued 1973 with a control number Then Scott advises adopted as a regular Postage stamp, but does not indicate when this occurred All mine appear cancelled 1989

Paraguay The case of the missing Organist 1986 Sc#2162 Scott states..." Venus, an organist, Cupid and a dog" ? (Still cannot find the picture of the well, with an image of a faun ?) The painting by Titian The translation of the allegory The great Venetian master created several paintings depicting the nude Venus in the company of male musicians. Each of these works has multiple allegorical meanings. In this picture the connection between music and love can be sensed even more directly than in earlier astrological illustrations. Painters have characterized the children of Venus (that is, those who were born under the sign of Taurus the Bull or Libra the Scales) with scenes of love-making and other earthly pleasures: games, feasts, bathing, dancing, excursions, and especially music-playing. From the complex astrological series of the sixteenth century developed the picture type "Venus with Musician", then the amorous scenes and pastoral concerts which remained fashionable for another two hundred years. In Titian's painting the contact between the enamoured youth and the goddess reveals something else, too. The canvas is dominated by the reclining nude figure on the couch casually leaning on her elbow and personifying beauty with her full body and the vibrant liveliness of her skin. The organ-player has his back toward her, but he openly turns his head while playing and derives inspiration from the sight of such beauty. This is a clear presentation of the inspiration theme in which Venus fulfills the role of the Muse. Her demeanour is ceremonial and passive; she pays no attention to the musician while he - and this is similar in each variant - makes great effort to make eye contact. It appears as if he pays reverence to such physical beauty by playing his music. In addition, this painting can be considered the representation of Sight and Hearing. The active role of the glance and the importance of vision refer to the first sense, while the music-playing to the second. We can also assume that the stag running across the background became part of this picture in connection with Hearing, while the well, decorated with the figure of a faun holding an urn, is the well-spring of love.

Rod I like how your posts alway make me take a second look at stamps that are simply destined for the auction block.
Isn't it interesting how in 1913, they used the same design for postage, postage due and official stamps. Lack of imagination, or efficiency? The latter I think.

Agreed, all printed recess by the South American bank Note Company. (Poor old Nicholas Seebeck, I had him as culprit, until I realised he finished up in 1899) They used the Postage Dues for Postage in 1918 (opt) so they did come in handy.

The previous caretaker of this stamp, had it marked "unpunched" which, as it turns out, is a misinterpretation. This is the the Scott #38 dull blue, which was never punched (Mr. Candido Bareiro, President of Paraguay 1878-1880) The Scott #37 Violet Blue was punched The 10c violet blue was, until 1896, issued punched with a circular hole in order to prevent it being fraudulently overprinted as No. 31. Scott#31 was only sold on the day of issue, (12th October, 1892) commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Colombus. The punched hole prevented the nefarious from fraudulently overprinting the base stamp. Unpunched Violet Blue CV $8 / $4
